My boyfriend and I are driving from Texas to Ohio to move back home in 3 days and it is a 22 hour drive. We are driving seperate because we have two different cars. So I will be driving alone yet following him. None the less it is a long long long drive. I hate driving long distances, I've never driven longer than 4 hours by myself, any tips on how to keep me occupied? I am burning cds, and audiobooks, and other ideas? Also what kind of drinks and food do you recommend to keep me energized. And how about anything to put on the seat to keep me comfortable cause I'll be sitting a long time.

Your question is not really clear on one point. Are you planning on the trip taking three days, or are you leaving in three days to make the trip? I am going to assume that you are talking about spending three days on the road. Trying to drive 22 hours straight is just plain crazy.

The idea of a set of two way radios is a good one. you should also have cell phones so that you can communicate in case you become separated! Start off after getting a good nights rest. You want to plan on stopping every 2-3 hours for a break, and at that time you want to refuel both vehicles and walk around a bit! This will keep you alert! You also need to work out a rule with your boyfriend that the person with the weaker bladder is the one who gets to decide when a rest room stop is needed!

Plan to stop early enough in the evening to give yourself time to relax and unwind! It may be a good idea to have hotel reservations made, that way you are sure you have a place to stay. You may want to check some travel websites for discounts and hotel ratings.

When you stop for the night, relax and have a nice dinner! Most likely lunch is going to be fast food, so take some time and sit and enjoy your meal! Go back to the room and relax, watch TV or whatever, and get a good night's rest! Many hotels offer breakfast in the morning, so that may be a factor in where you stay, and give you a good start for the second and third days' travel.

Try to drive mostly in the daylight hours. Driving at night is a lot more monotonous, because there is less to see! It is also harder to follow another car after dark.

Drive safely and look at it as an adventure, rather than a burden, and you will be able to do this!!

so weird.... I'm taking a 22 hour long drive to ohio from florida in 2 days! soooo exciteed.... anyways, Ive never been on a long drive like that myself, but i would suggest burned Cds and listening to the radio. Even though it may sound boring, maybe listen to a politics radio show or something like that, it might make time go by quicker. Don't drink red bull or anything, or if you do just drink 1 with food on your stomach. Ive heard of people over doing it on red bull on empty stomachs while driving long distances and getting sick. Maybe get a protein bar- its quick and easy to eat and will keep you full. Do you have a small pillow you could put on your seat? that may help. Try not to let yourself get too tense while driving, and maybe use cruise control if you have it. Other than that, just try to enjoy the scenery. I think it's gonna be cold and snowy in Ohio this week though, so be careful!

Have a great trip!

how long do they drive before they stop? why are they only driving 50 mph? what difference does the time of day make? if you are saying they drive for one hour, then stop, you'll have 9h36m basically, 330 miles divided by 50 is 6.6 hours of driving, or 6 hours 36 minutes. add to that the 6 30 minute stops, or 3 hours worth, and you have the answer

I actually love long trips! Drink lots of water, it fights fatigue and won't make you jittery or cause you to "crash" the way caffeine and energy drinks do.

I like to bring foods that are crunchy like Wheat Thins and baby carrots. Red grapes travel pretty well. Apples, too. Don't bring too much sugary stuff - you'll get a quick sugar high and then crash back down. But I do like to bring candy I can stretch out, like Laffy Taffy or Jolly Ranchers or lollipops, and just have a piece once in awhile.

Audio books are a great idea! They keep me awake and alert more than music does (on long trips, anyway). Do you have a Big Lots or Ollies? I get audio books there very cheap - like $4. Check thrift shops, too.

Make plenty of stops, even if it's just on the shoulder of the highway to walk around for 5 or 10 minutes. A quick stretch often perks me up!

Do you have a favorite gas station or convenience store? I know it probably sounds weird but my husband and I love Wa Wa stores! You might want to check out your driving route and find some of your favorite stores to use for rest stops.

Hope that helps! Have a good time!

Ok i know this sounds funny, but i went on a cross country drive from virginia to montana. I would get out ever 3 or 4 hours or whenever i started to feel drowsy and do some yoga...the poses made for energizing your body, then sometimes I would even run around for a few minutes, just getting my blood pumping again would give me a lot more energy! Good Luck!

Here are some energy boosting snacks you should take along:

Fresh Bananas and Apples
Yogurt and Cereal
Popcorn
Almonds and Walnuts

I would avoid energy drink because even though they will give you energy at first you will have to come down from that energy boost, and you also want to make sure to get a good nights sleep when you stop. I think it is a good idea to burn some cd's and take some audio books.

Get yourself a set of two way radios. Then you and your boyfriend can talk along the way. Also I hope you are breaking the trip up into at least two days. That will make it easier also.
