My dad and I had this talk last night about illogical arguements about Christianiy (He is a Christian by the way) and my biggest "I just don't get it" thing was why everyone prayed to Jesus instead of God. If Jesus WAS God then wouldn't it make sense to pray to God instead? Wouldn't Jesus be sort of a middle man? Even what I was Christian, I never prayed to Jesus. It wasn't a concious decision or anything, it just didn't make any sense. I always figured if I was going to pray to GOD then I should pray to GOD. What was your top "I don't get it"?

LOL Yeah that is my second "I don't get it".
If Jesus was God then why was he always praying to himself? Why did he doubt himself at the rock in the garden? Why did he ask himself why he had forsaken himself on the cross...which always led me back to why are we praying to Jesus instead of God?

No, sorry Kelly. It still just doesn't make any sense to me. How can God and Jesus be the same by your explination? Sorry, I just really don't get it. LOL

I can't even begin to pick a best answer, there were some really interesting and cool answers! Perhaps we shed a little light to Christians on why we aren't Christian. I resepect thier right to believe it, but it makes no damn sense to me. And apparently over 50 people LOL

There are a few things that I'm unclear about, or that I just don't plain get. I too get confused when people talk about Jesus and say he is the Lord... isn't their God the Lord? And then some of them say that Jesus IS God... so he's his own son? If this isn't the case, doesn't this contradict the Ten Commandments saying not to worship idols, because people are worshiping Jesus instead of God?
Transubstantiation also really baffles me. Why are people symbolically committing cannibalism?
I think Raji should start up some Christian information questions...

I've never understood the monotheistic thing. When I was little, it just didn't make sense for there to be only one god. As I've looked more into religions and specifically angelology, it got even more confusing. How can Christians think the religion is monotheistic. I suppose technically it is, but there's all these angels running around with godly powers, and Lucifer hanging out in hell _clearly_ with the same strength as God. And then there's the whole trinity thing, which contradicts the monotheistic idea as well.
And also, the idea that it is the only right path. If it's the only right path, why did it take tens of thousands of years of polytheistic societies to come up with the idea?

People will say whatever they like. They have said a lot worse things about Christians for sure! On Yahoo, they have called us stupid, dumb, said they will be glad when there are no Christians, can't wait for the government to kill us off so they can take our property, etc.. As long as I am free to worship God in the way I see fit, let them talk. God knows my heart and can judge if I am a real follower of Christ or not. Bottom line, no one gets to really make that determination...except God. The only thing that would really bother me is if my Constitutional right to freedom of religion were taken away. They are working on that, but it is not here yet, thank the Lord! Peace and blessings to you!

I never understood how a god who created the universe and claimed to love humans most of all would set up his creation for failure, blame them for it, and then require that innocent animals be sacrificed to make it up to him.
I've never understood how people who had no knowledge or understanding of the god-man myth could possibly be sent to eternal torment simply because they didn't know about it; and those who did and thought it was too fantastic to be believeable would also be tormented.
I don't understand the huge disparity between the Jewish belief in God and the Christian belief and how christians can claim to love the jewish god, when it's clear they are not the same one. How can a god who makes a contract with a certain people that is to be an everlasting covenant throughout all their generations and who says "I am God. I do not change" could possibly be the same god of the "new testament".. just doesn't make any sense at all to me.
There's more, but that'll do ;)

Christianity made perfect sense and was a positive force for the last Aeon, while we still believe the Sun (Son) died every night, and was reborn every morning. When a strong, centralized figure was needed to rule so the Clan could move in a coordinated fashion, and when the brute strength of men (like I, who am quite physically strong) weighed as more important than the equally shared intelligence and wisdom, both men and women display in this, the new Aeon.

what i don't get is why christians pretend to be so much better than people they think are nonbelievers. They pretend the know all these things about god and jesus and they tell you how to be and the look up their nose at you like you are inferior. If God and the Bible were true all men and woman would be equal and the christian's are not even the chosen people but the can sure put on the dog when they think the understand the Bible

Dear Your argument appears to be traveling in right direction. Of course the way you have comprehended the concept may be different from others. Yet one needs to ask one moot question that who is eternal and absolute having the attributes of omniscient and all pervasiveness. If these attributes are reserved to only one and one then every existence living or non living is subordinate to His will. In this scenario nobody has the power to even wink except with His will. Of course the prophets of God are the chosen ones whose prayers are readily answered to. So is the case to a lesser extent with the divine men who are in total submission of God whose invocations and prayers are also received well and adequately responded.
The Jesus Christ peace be upon him was prophet of God who was blessed with the holy book. Yet in all fairness he could neither be attributed the attributes of God nor could he be taken as God. God had blessed him with a message and as a messenger he spread the message amongst the people who have digressed from the right path. Jesus Christ peace upon him humbly obeyed the God and invited people to do so. His followers therefore should practice what he preached but unfortunately out of zeal for the noble Jesus some of his followers mistakenly promoted the concept of trinity and started portraying him as God.

"Sin"... this makes absolutely no sense to me.
First off... I've never understood the idea that you should feel bad about making a mistake. Life is for learning. So figure out what you did wrong and do better next time.
Secondly... if we have "design flaws," then it's the fault of the designer not ours (besides, I find the modern scientific evidence of evolution more compelling than a bunch of self-contradictory stories and teaching in any ancient book).

I understand Christianity quite well, having been a Christian for more than 20 years. I understand the Trinity thing, and the "how can a perfect God send people to hell?" thing, and the "by grace are ye saved through faith, not works" thing, and so on.
I no longer am willing to pretend with respect to that stuff.

I've always had trouble understanding the idea of Jesus dying for our sins. So many apparent contradictions there. I'm not criticizing, just saying it's hard for me to understand it.
