I agree with Bubbha Jo. Buddha was the most loving, compassionate, peaceful person you could ever known to come into existence. The lessons he taught are the ones we should be following today.
A religion who states that they are peaceful and yet prosecutes and kills millions without a justifiable cause is no religion I want to be a part of.
Well technically, it's not just Christians. Catholics, Jews and Muslims have all killed in the name of God/Allah/Muhammad.
No one of those religions is at fault wholly.

The original message of Christianity WAS a peaceful one. It was a heretical notion if you read the old testament. Jesus Christ did not die because you and I are sinners. He was put to death by the old guard that were threatened by his radical Ideas.
His church was eventually co-opted by the Roman Empire, and used to return to the violent empire building espoused in the old testament, in the name of Jesus Christ. That was fine as long as you did not allow the bible to be translated int a language most people could read.
The bible is translated into English now, but you would be surprised by the number of people running around thumping it who have never actually READ it.

Yes. It's been 2000 years and we are still waiting....while watching born-again Christian Bush's mess in Iraq.
In reality, based on the behavior of followers, Buddha was the true Prince of Peace.

Obviously you've never picked up a bible. The words are those that were sung by the heavenly host when they appeared to the shepherds announcing the birth of Jesus.

one of the reasons christianity has become so powerful is the propensity for it's followers to give credit of their work to their god.... but they also give credit of nature's work to their god... the peace movement and the love movement were hippie works.... we seen the hippies persecuted, peace marches destroyed with gun fire, young adults assaulted, heroes murdered... all because they said peace and love... Many things this century have been improved through humans working for peace and justice and equality all of them met up with christian opposition... but we won.. we don't ever get to see that because christians are quick to give their god credit for OUR hard work...

Because that is what Jesus, sort of wanted. It doesn't mean that anyone that ever professed to follow his Word, in the history of mankind, has actually made steps in pursuing that goal...

Oh yeah, all that non-peaceful stuff Christians did 600 years ago is still relevant today. Let me tell you.

If they lived the way Jesus himself taught, there wouldn't be the dissonance--but since they seem to ignore most of his teachings in favor of the "new, improved" view of him that his disciples' taught, you're right--it doesn't seem to fit.
