Most likely your going to need a instrument cluster replaced to have miles gallons and miles per hour spedo. I was looking in Section 2 of the owners manual and did not find anything about MPH to KILOS switch like some nissan cars you push and hold the reset button on the trip to change. But not the xterra.

If it is like any of the other cars we work on, you need to have the speed sensor replaced and the ECU re-programed, as it does not understand the conversion and needs the speed information to regulate air/fuel/speed monitoring. Many dealers can do this, but check with a local speedometer repair shop first.
