I am making some homemade jam and would like to also use the jam on cookies that I am making for a cookie exchange party. I am wondering if the cookies need to be stored differently, with the homemade jam. Normally I would not refrigerate, but without the preservatives in the jam, I'm not sure what should be done.

Thanks!

I refrigerate and even have frozen them before. My favorite thumbprints though are with the sugar cookie frosting in the middle! :)
I made them with Raspberry preserves last year and the frosting also, the ones with preserves barely were touched but the ones with colorful frosting were gobbled up and everyone wanted the recipe. That's the only kind of thumbprint I made this year.

What preservatives could you possibly be talking about....Pectin maybe?? Pectin is in the skin of apples, among other things....and that is part of the thickening process, among using lemon to make the jam. Lemon is used for the acidity so the pectin can work its magic in less acidic fruits....Yes use your jam in your thumbprint cookies...it should be fine...Also, you can freeze cookies...airtight, and remove 2 hrs before your party to thaw.
