My 5 little kittens that are 6 weeks old wont stop poohing and weeing all over the floor, their litter box is in the same room as them and we are constantly putting them in there so they try and get used to it. Sometimes they do there thing in the box but its almost as if they do it in there when they want to. Last night i saw one of them was just about to go to the toilet on the floor so i quickly put her in the litter box and she walked out and went for a pee on the carpet. This morning i got up to find 5 poohs around the lounge and one right beside the litter box. I dont know what to do anymore. My partner and i are going away in 6 days for 2 weeks and we are getting friends to look after the kittens, i dont want them to be constantly cleaning up after the kittens. Any advice

We did have there litter box in the laundry but then they kept going in the lounge to go toilet thats why moved the litter tray there because we thought if its in the lounge they will use it. Its cleaned out all the time. They are getting plenty of good food. Sorry its not a box its just a tray, they can get in and out easily. I might try buying some more trays and see if that helps.

Is the litter box clean? I know cats hate a dirty one. You might want to wash it with soap and water (just rinse it very well).

how often are you cleaning the catbox/tray? even kittens can be picky about the cleanliness of their potty. So first, make sure to keep it clean. Also, you should have more than one cat pan/tray/box. With five cats, you might be having a problem where one cat has to go at the same time as another, but not being able to because of another cat. I'd say you'd need at least three cat pans/trays/boxes. You can keep them all in the same room, its more a matter of them having some privacy (their own box) when they need to go. Also, use Nature's Miracle or one of the other cat odor removers to clean up where they already went. They will go back to the place where they went before because they can smell it there. Regular cleaners won't work, you have to use something that totally gets rid of the odor. IF none of this stuff works, there is a product called Cat Attract that I've heard almost ALWAYS gets the cats to go back in the litterbox. I'd try the other stuff first though-- definitely need more than one catbox/tray. Veterinarians say that you really should have 2 catboxes per cat in the household - but for now since they are kittens, you could probably go with just 3 boxes.

There's something wrong! cats usually are clean by nature. When I want to teach them, the 1st time they do it on the floor I say firmly with a loud voice: No! don't do it here. With a little tabbing on her nose & an angry look on my face. Then I'll let them smell it & take them to the sand tray. Each time I repeat the same thing & after 2 -3 times they'll stop doing it. They usually understand this. The only time they did it out again is when I changed the sand to another brand. So I knew it was from the sand that hurt their fingers. Also if their nails was removed they'll do it out of the tray for long time. Another reason is when you have multiple kittens they need another additional tray. Because when it's full or smelly some times they do it out.

You should have several litter boxes for the kittens. A lot of cats hate going where other cats have gone. Also, if you see one kitten mess on the floor, pick up it's "number 2" and the kitten and place both in the litter box so that they know thats where you want them to go.

MAKE SURE THE LITTER BOX IS CLEAN... & FOR 5 KITTENS, HAVE ATLEAST 3 OR 4 BOXES..THAT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING . THEN WHEN YOU FEED THEM, TAKE THEM STRAIGHT TO THE LITTER BOX... THEY MIGHT NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO BUT USE UR FINGER IN THE THE LITTER BOX AS IF UR DOING THE SAME THING.. WORKED FOR ALL MY BABIES.... 17 IF I MAY ADD.... DONT GIVE UP... THEY MAYBE UPSET. THEY MAY MISS THEIR MOM. IS SHE THERE... CUZ THE MOM ALWAYS TEACHES HER YOUNG WHAT TO DO .. CATS ARE USUALLY VERY CLEAN AND WONT GO TO THE BATHROOM WHEN IT'S VERY SMELLY.5 KITTENS CAN BE VERY SMELLY IF IT'S ONE BOX.. ...& WOULD RATHER GO ON UR CLEAN CARPET WHERE THERE IS NO STENCH... PROBLEM... ONCE THEY DO IT IN THEIR FAVORITE CORNER, THEY WILL ALWAYS RETURN SO THERE IS ANOTHER REMEDY FOR THAT.. U WOULD FIND IT IN PET STORES. .

if the odor is their on the carpets they will keep claiming the area and the litter boxes are best 2-3 of them because for real they do not like using someone Else's box and if it is a sand type they do not want to hurt their feet.

Instead of a litter box, theres these like pads that you can put on the floor that they're supposto go on. I think they're meant for puppies but i'd use it in this case. and it depends on how high the litter box is off of the ground.

They need a smaller area, and to NOT be on the carpet. If they have been going all over, the carpet SMELLS like a litterbox to them!!! They are going to keep going there, since it is easier. You need to confine them to a much smaller area, especially when you are not around to watch them. Maybe a lower litterbox would help also.
It is time to worm them also. That can cut down on the amount of poop. A good food will also.
