Do you find a Canadian accent pleasing or irritating to the ear?

It depends. I am Canadian but most people think I am french, most people like it. Of course the EH gives me in.
However, even canadians make fun of other canadians and either like it or get irritated by accents. Mind you Toronto does not count. We have more than 50 differnet langauges and EVERYONE has a different accent.
Every province and even different regions within the same province have different accents.
For example, in Toronto we would say: "What are your guys lined up for, eh?"
In the maritimes, Halifax/PEI to be more exact, you would hear:
"Wha' use guyses line 'tup fur eh?"
In quebec that would come out as: "What ewwze guyz lined up fore hein? " - very strong french accent.
In BC: just put a british accent on top of the torontonian version.
and in Newfoundland (pronounced newFINland), I can't even portrait it here since they speak a dialect of english with gaelic... Coofe and tea for example comes out as Kaffee in Tay
But I LOVE the nuances. oh and I love the Boston/southern american accent...
So I guess I love accents...

Pleasing in the sense that I'm a homesick expat, but from a strictly phonological point of view, really quite irritating. Except Altantic Canadians, and some First Nations accents, they can sound nice.

There are many different accents in Canada.
Newfoundlanders seem to have their own language and can be very hard to understand. Others from down east have a bit of a different accent from the Newfies but easier to understand. Quebec is mostly french and if they attempt to speak english, which many refuse to do, it can be quite interesting....for lack of a better word. I'm in Ontario and we don't have an accent.......in our opinions. Americans think all Canadians have one but then so do they. I've been out west and didn't notice any difference, eh?

I live in WNY about five miles away from Canada, and when I'm out of New York state, I get asked if I'm Canadian because of the way I speak.

I honestly don't notice the accent because I'm used to it. There are a lot of Canadians who come to the US, and I go to Canada quite often.

Pleasing.

OF course I live 10 miles from the NB border and our accents overlap quite a bit.

I can't tell it apart from an American (not South or NY) accent.
I can't tell the difference between an Australian and a NZ accent either.
