My daughter is 15 months (will be 16 months in 5 days). I took her today to her 15 month check up and she was 34 inches and 32lbs 7oz, the doctor (who isn't my normal doctor because my normal doctor is on maternity leave) said that he was concerned with her weight. She has always been big for her height and weight (I am 5'5" and my husband is 6'5") So should I be concerned and try to start cutting what I feed her, she doesn't get that much in junk food normally. Thank you in advance.

She is very very active never sits still for anything and as I said above really doesn't get much in the line of junk food, pop or juice. And as I said above she as always been in the 95th percentile for her weight and her normal doctor has never said anything before because she was just starting to get more active. In my opinion (the others who see her often) say that she is thinner now then she ever has been.

For the third time I DO NOT feed her a lot of junk or sweets or fast food, we very very rarely eat out. Also she is lactose intolerant so she drinks soy milk which has way way less calories than whole milk.

Due to the fact that your husband is tall and she has always been in higher percentiles on the chart, this is normal for your child. Her height and weight match up. No way should you cut back on her food. She sounds like a perfectly healthy (tall) girl.

My daughter is 16 months and she weighs 22 lbs 5 ounces. So, we have about a 10 lbs difference. I know my cousin had a baby a year before I did, and when her daughter was 10 months old she already weighed 20 lbs. The difference between her and I...is she's taller, her husband is also pretty tall too and a bigger guy and she formula fed. I'm pretty short and my husband is shorter than her husband and I breastfed my daughter. I have read in parenting magazines that breastfed babies weigh less than those who are formula fed. So, was your daughter formula fed? Another thing, your husband sounds like a big guy, maybe your husbands genes are taking over as far as the height and weight thing. I think that it's perfectly ok that your daughter weighs 32 lbs. Everyone needs to remember that every person in this world is different and shouldn't judge the parent on the way their child looks. I never thought my cousin fed her daughter too much junk or anything of the sort, besides, my cousin is actually healthier than I am.

Well, she does sound a bit hefty. That's what my son weighed when he was two years old and about 38" tall. But kids tend to grow out, and then up. Have you ever noticed that kids going through puberty tend to fill out before they hit a growth spurt? Since your husband is pretty tall, she may be destined to be a big girl. Never deprive a hungry child of food, but make sure everything she eats is healthy and balanced. You said she doesn't eat much junk, which is great. Still, NO junk would be better. At her age, she doesn't need any. It's more important that she learns to love healthy food. We didn't feed any junk to my son, and he certainly wasn't deprived. Now, at age 3, he enjoys a cup of applesauce the way most kids enjoy ice cream.
So let her eat, but keep it wholesome. You may also want to bring her to a nutritionist, just to get a second opinion. But if she has healthy eating habits, I wouldn't worry too much.

she sounds, as you said, a little big. It's ok, don't worry. If you are feeding her healthy stuff and not much junk, just don't worry. As she grows, she will get more and more active and you'll notice her body shape thinning out from the activity. She will also have height growth spurts and will "stretch out" and have a more slender looking appearance. I have only known one child who really was way too overweight for her age and height. This little girl's mom fed her constantly, and plenty of it was junk. All the others who were a little chubby went through the above process and had normal body weights by the time kindergarten rolled around. Good luck, and try not to worry.

My grandaughter is 20 months and she weighs 22 lbs. She is just starting to fill out as she was always in the bottom 5%. Her mom is 5'2" and her dad is 6'4". Every child is different, but I would not give her any additional sweets (no junk food)and when your doc returns from maternity leave seek her help.

Just as long as you are feeding healthy foods don't worry at this point. Children go through spurts where they will put on weight then end up using all the "extra" on growth spurts. As long as you are not "overfeeding"(giving food as a reward or mistaking thirst for hunger) relax ....I was concerned about my daughter at about that age and my doctor told me to just wait it out make sure foods are healthy and watch her grow
She is currently 11 and has no weight problem.

My son was 37 inches tall and 39 pounds and the my doctor l said how great he was doing. Your daughter may be big for her age but based on the size of your husband it would be expected. Remember she very tall for her age so she is going to weigh more. I would continue to feed her healthy foods and ask your regular pediatrician when she returns.

I would say .... yeah she sounds a little over weight. My son is 19 months and is 28lbs, and he is a big boy like his dad. And I dont feed him any junk food, maybe a bite here and there, but not very often. Most kids dont get into the 30's until they are 3. A doctor knows what they are talking about (for the most part). When does your doc come back? If its not for awhile you could schedule an appointment with another doctor and find some one you are comfortable with and would have a 2nd oppinion.
Good Luck!

I think my son was about that weight at that age and now he is 4 and only 40lbs. I wouldn't worry about it unless she continues at this rate. My nephew was 25 lbs at 6 mths and he is 8 and small for his age now. Don't worry unless it continues to be a problem the next few check-ups.
