You'd find it hard to lose 40lbs in 4 months just by boosting your metabolism - but it's not impossible, with good diet and exercise.

Boosting your metabolism is simple - eat well and eat regularly. Snack (healthily e.g. and apple) between each meal and DO NOT MISS MEALS!

You people on here are crazy! Your all insecure and try and set UNREALISTIC goals. Good luck on your 40 lbs! Best way to boost metabolism is to work out. That means cardio daily and weights twice a week. Muscle mass uses more calories, and helps burn fat. Unless your extremely over weight, 40 lbs in "no more then 4 months" really isn't healthy.

eat plenty of good food, keep that thing working, it's just like the rest of your body, if you don't exercise it, it will fall out of shape as well.

exercise will be more than critical

good luck (might want to give yourself more time)
