I don't anymore. I used to have a lower opinion of Wicca then I did other paths, but I met a really bad *** Wiccan and my outlook changed. When she showed me what Wicca was REALLY about, I saw the difference.
Now I just used the term Fluffy Bunny with utter distain instead. *G*As a recon myself though, I actually feel bad for the legitimate Wiccans out there. Most Recon paths will go for blood. If you aren't willing to put in the work, you'll get eaten alive. Bunnies don't last long with us. Unfortunatly for Wiccans you have aLOT of people out there claiming to be witches and teaching others a bunch of utter nonsense and compounding the problem. Beause they are a young faith, it is easy to put out bad info on them. They don't exactly have verifiable archeological evidence like recons. It's not hard for someone looking into Wicca to get bad info and just not know any better.

People consider it like a dirty word when they don't understand what it's really about, or if they don't have an open mind and heart. That being said, I can totally see where you're going with this and I agree! There are so many fake books giving ridiclous information to people who are already flaky, how could that not annoy you? As a Wiccan, I try not to judge, but few Wiccans I have met over 12 years have seemed serious and informaed correctly. When I go to a public ritual or study group, I drive over an hour to do this with Druids. They would never suggest sprinkling glitter as solution to a real problem, LOL. People who are dedicated to Wicca in a great way are out there, you just have to learn how to tell who's read 3 books and telling the world what a great WITCH they are, and the people who struggle, and study, and make their spiritualty a main focus of their lives. Also, I've been practicing the Wiccan religion for over 12 years, and I'm still pretty guarded about my faith in real life. My husband, mom, brother, two of my closeest friends, and the Druids I interact with even know I'm Wiccan. People who shout they are Wiccan drive me crazy! It's like they are showing off and are doing things only for attention and it's people like that who make the majority of the population go, "Wicca? (eyes roling) and who can blame them?
I think many people know that Wiccans aren't satanists, but many Christians are still uncomfortable with us. And with thir children reading books by certain authors who tell them they can be Christian Wiccans, and they should lie and hide this from their family, who in the world can blame them?

I think it's a dirty word, mainly because of this need for us to attack each other. How many of you have started witch wars? How many of you get snotty about "fluffy bunnies" and look for reasons to treat others with disrespect? How many of you think your flavor of Witchcraft (or whatever you call yourself) is the "true", "right" and only "real" way? I find this true especially coming from those who SHOULD call themselves Wiccan - the Gardnerians, BTWs, etc. I'm sorry but Wicca is a made-up word with a fictitious etymology and a lot of irreligious followers, and I no longer self-identify with it. Respect, tolerance, and humility are required traits for me.

As a fellow recon, I understand why it's looked at that way sometimes. Wicca is a very young belief system (even though they like to say they're practicing the "old religion") and it was founded on very spurious terms by a man of very little character. I don't think it's just the fluffy bunnies.. there are plenty of Wiccans out there that sincerely practice their faith.. but, there are just as many holier-than-thou's and "we're of the old faiths" that make it hard to take them seriously for many pagans in general.

It's not a dirty word and anyone who says Wicca is satanic has no idea of the religion. It's a religion that revolves around nature and healing. Oh yeah, that's real satanic.

properly in simple terms make certain to not have self belief that Wiccans worship nature. we've deities. Now the deities are frequently represented via issues in nature however the emphasis is on the lord and woman, not on the solar and moon. Nature fairly performs a place interior the religion yet I each so often opt to laugh with laughter when I hear human beings asserting that Wicca is a "nature-based faith". that is not possibly. Its maximum intense factors are stability, rationality, and duty. edit: haha pay no heed to the respond under this one. you won't be able to think of somebody credible in the event that they even have self belief that Wiccans take Silver Ravenwolf heavily.

What heathen said, only to the nth power.

Most Fluffy bunnies actually claim to be "non-Wiccan Witches" these days. They are moving away from Wicca.

Well, as you know, it's not fair to generalize and lump everyone together. Yes Wicca has fluffies running around, but there are also many legitimate Wiccans.
