just heard the news that theyve mannaged to get cells from a tissue sample to regress back to stems i think they said they had managed to acquire 7 different kinds of stem cells already.....

assuming this research goes ahead and the stems are all fine

surely this should mean theres no reason the church should oppose stem cell research any more given that no fetal stems are recquired

Agreed.

It also shows that Bush was right when he prohibited fetal stem cell research. In his speech, he stated that there were other methods to get the stem cells, science just had to find them. Science did. There should be no objection now.

The problem is that they will need to re-program all their believers from a "Stem Cell Research Is Evil" position to a "Stem Cell Research Is Good" position.

Once you wind up these people an set them going it can be difficult to get hem to change direction.

Trying to explain the difference between embryonic stem cells and cells that have been reverted to an embryonic stem cell state is going to be an interesting thing to watch.

Especially as the church leaders are traditionally old men, who would be the beneficiaries of much of the treatments that could come out of this research.

The Church has NEVER opposed adult stem cell research.

Where did you hear that from? it could not be further from the truth.

So no, the Church's stance on adult stem cell research should not change.

--Oh, OK, so George Bush is the spokesman for all of Christianity. Thanks for letting me know that.

There is no logical reason, but that doesn't mean the churches won't oppose it. Anything that is progressive will be opposed by the conservatives who just want the world to remain at a constant standstill.

And freethinking, the answer to your question is Dubya.

I believe that the debate centres around creating life from stem cells, not specifically where they are harvested from.

I think that "breaking news" is about 2 months old, but glad you're stoked about it. I am, too. How many more lives could Christian dogma cost the world by inhibiting scientific medical research.

That's old news... and yes, you're right. The hissy fit is over. No need any more to chop up babies in the name of science.
