This has been an issue for four years or more now...who is going to have Christmas on my side of the family. My sister has two kids and then there's her husband and my Mom. My Mom resides in a nursing home and is counting on one of us to have her over during the holidays. I'm planning on having her over Christmas Day and I'll cook a nice meal for her. This has got my sister really upset; however, she'll be having my Mom over the Sunday before and my husband, daughter, and I haven't been invited...probably due to smoke. I refuse to go to my sister's house since two CHAIN smokers live there. I crammed everyone into my apartment four years ago, cooked a big meal, and didn't even get one thank you. Last year, I did the same (again no thank you) and everyone dashed out the door after eating nearly all my food and opening gifts....they were only here an hour and a half and I had to let my Mother and brother-in-law back into the building (security locked) six times during that time so they

could smoke. Then, they didn't even pick up their used butts and my on-site manager got on me about it. Where do we get together...my sister and family can't afford to go out to eat and I don't feel that I should have to rent a room somewhere for eight people. Help!

I like Been there done that's answer.

If you have to do the family thing, try this.

You invite them over to your house on Christmas. Explain that you have a family to support too so to help each other out that everyone bring a dish. Let her bring a ham (can be cooked and wrapped in foil), a side dish and a desert, make sure that she knows what to bring so that you all have a descent meal. When they are unwrapping presents give them a trash bag for the mess. When you are finished with that enlist your sisters help with the kitchen clean up.

If she doesn't like it, you tried in a fair way to host the holiday and are under no further obligation to do it again.

You are a good person and a good parent and you must always put your child, self and husband first. Do what feels right and have a great Christmas!

I have not visible someone gravitate to the kitchen or eating room on account that the 1970's however however it would be simply the best way I are living or it would be simply that gigantic households do this, or probably simply up north does that. I have determined it relatively frustrating that over the beyond 25 years a minimum of that while you present any person a smooth drink or cookies or pie or a small meal or whatever out of courtesy they keep to refuse considering the fact that of both a few vitamin they're on or considering the fact that they do not do chocolates or they're vegetarian or anything. It's been a truly affliction...etiquette is misplaced.
