How would you get her to stop?

Try: Aunt Jane, could you not lick your finger while serving the cake to us? I don't want the kids to think that it's OK to share germs, especially this time of the year.

Don't serve cake. Serve cupcakes instead or individual cakes. That way she won't touch them with her licked fingers. If this isn't possible, then offer to cut the cake for her. Then I would talk to whichever parent the sister belongs to and ask them to tell her to stop. She may not even realize she's doing it. She may also think, "we're all family" which "families aren't supposed to care about other family member's germs." Besides, her spit can't be any worse than eating something with your fingers without washing your hands after you've been to the grocery store. Ewww!

God, isn't it awful? That's what napkins are for. I can see a little finger licking if you are alone but my God! If you are serving others, it is just wrong, annoying and gross.

Our office manager constantly licks her fingers while preparing the tray for our sales meeting and while preparing her own lunch. It drives me insane. I'd say something to her directly but I can't seem to do it without sounding angry. I have actually been toying with the idea of saying something to management about it. Over 20 people are eating from that tray and I have never once seen her wash her hands before handling food of any kind.

Why are people like this?

At least you've gotten some good answers!

That's disgusting and it's funny that you brought this up. We were at my cousin's wedding and his wife's aunt was cutting and serving the cake. She too was licking her fingers after each slice and it was driving my mom nuts. I don't know what else you can do other than refuse to eat the cake, which is what we did.

I agree with Lighthouse....tho I gotta tell ya, you'll probably be told "We are all family, and family germs are ok." Share & share alike!
Seriously tho, went thru that at home when I was a kid and never thought anything of it.....same went with Mom making dinner and giving us kids a 'taste' of whatever....
Since it really bugs ya, try
"Ohhhh Aunt Kay, please don't lick yer fingers like that and then touch the cake...that's kinda gross, not to mention a good way to pass along flu bugs and all that other nasty stuff!"
But don't be surprised if she just laffs it off....if she does, then tell her you'll get your own piece...thanks!

Lighthouse is exactly right. You need to address the issue, not try to intercept her every single time she serves something! You'll be stressed for the rest of your life if you do that! You can address it in a tactful way, just as lighthouse suggested, and i think setting a good example for the kids is a GREAT way to bring it up.

I cannot think of a single tactful way to do that, but I totally get where you're coming from. I think I would just refuse the food with excuses like "I'm off sweets right now" or something along those lines--- this is a stumper !

"Aunt Jane, why don't you take a rest. Let me serve the cake for you."

Would you rather she NOT lick the poop off her fingers before serving cake?
