Late January or early February. In addition to trying get rid of the last of the surplus Holiday merchandise, merchants are faced with inventory tax very soon. In addition, many manufacturers will be releasing their '08 line of products. They'll really deal !!
P.S. Don't overlook Nikon in your search for a camera. Canon is excellent too. Sony, although they make some of the finest consumer electronics available, is new to the camera business,. I'd rather deal with a company that has been selling cameras exclusivley for years !! Just my opinion.

Digital cameras are one of those technologies that are changing so rapidly that there is probably no "good" or "bad" time to buy one. The best deals are probably going to be on used cameras (with the obvious risks) or cameras that have been out for several months and have been marked down considerably from their original msrp. A place like eBay would be particularly good for this type of purchase. If however you are looking to get one of the latest and greatest cameras with all the most up-to-date and advanced features, then I'd say now is as good of time to buy as any. Also think aobut whether you are going to want to use the Camera over the holidays. If so, it might be worth it to get it now. Some stores offer price protection programs where they will match a lower price if you find it later. Your credit card may also have this option. One strategy I would suggest is to get the camera you want but then hold off on getting all the accessories until you find good deals on those, especially if you are willing to buy them on-line. Hope this helps.

Well Jan-Feb is a poor time for sales on stuff in general. You will have to wait until a President's Day type event for anything to really be discounted.
Check the online retailers. Often Amazon and New Egg will run promos for the holidays. Really the holidays are one of the best times of the year for sales.

The best time would have been on Black Friday, but you might find some decent sales now, I think the closer you get to Christmas, the fewer sales you will find, If you wait until after Christmas, you might find some sales again

I would like Canon for digital camera.
When I bought my canon, I was watching the price from the internet and store discount. So when it came thanksgiving day it was so cheap so I bought that. It took 3-4 months to kept me waiting.
As long as you know how much the price of the camera, you will get the cheap one. Just keep monitoring the price. And maximal the price will go down about less than $100.00

Dont buy one in the christmas sales.
In the January sales is the best time to get one as the price will be much cheaper and affordable.
I Think they have end of year sales in curries and comet.

if you really want one soon, buy it in the few days before christmas when stores have sales. if you can wait, you should just get one the days before and right after thanksgiving - thats when the biggest sales take place (best of all u can buy it online so u don't have to wait on line, etc.).
alternatively, just scout out buy.com or amazon.com.. they have really good deals on cameras every week or so. wait till u see one you like thats on sale and buy it from there (they have free shipping for the most part too)

Begin with an ultra compact Nikon Coolpix L11 - 6 megapixel, 3X optical zoom, 2.4" LCD screen, uses 2 rechargeable AA batteries, and SD memory cards, captures excellent color sound videos and sells for $100 [w/o CA sales tax thru Wednesday, December 12] at samys.com.
Go with a subcompact digital camera with 7 megapixels, 2.5" LCD [238,000 pixels] and a regular viewfinder. Comes with a rechargeable lithium battery [which produces around 120 pictures via the LCD or 240 pictures via the viewfinder] and charger. Extra third-party lithium batteries sell for around $7.00. Stores 665 ulta-fine images on a 2-meg SD memory card and sells for $150.00 [without CA tax] thru Wednesday, December 12 at samys.com. It's the Canon PowerShot SD1000 and they are selling very fast. Check out the 400+ rave reviews by very satisfied purchasers at amazon.com
Good luck!
