I haven't heard much about this year, but last year people were demanding businesses to take down their Christmas decorations. I'm sorry but I do not understand. If I was on a Subway with someone and he was reading the Quran, I would not tell him he was offending me; he is simply exercising his religious freedom. If I am not knocking at your door asking you where the **** your Christmas tree is, I'm not forcing anything on you. So why do people get offended by other people exercising their rights? I wouldn't get mad if I went in a store owned by Jews and they had a Menorrah in the window; it is their right. What is wrong with people?

Soulful, I realize that the authenticity of the history and the rituals behind Christmas are inaccurate, but people say that the decorations offend them, not that we are not celebrating His birth correctly. I am talking about people who have a problem with the decorations being there at all.

I only hear about it when it is on public property, as in, paid for with everyones taxes. Then the people who's religious celebrations aren't displayed get ticked that they paid for someone else's religious celebration.... or the non religious question if that money could have gone toward something good and helpful instead of a religious display. And ultimately the people who support that particular religious display get upset and say their beliefs are being attacked. Everyone has a beef with something, and surly there are those that would find what you think is offensive to be silly.

It just depends on which side of the issue you happen to be on.

That's my observation anyways.

I say it is your business and home, decorate it how you want. If I see a business that is decorated in a way that I do not approve of then I just don't go into that business.
I have the choice as to whether I spend my money there or someplace else. This country is getting carried away with all the politically correct B.S. Turn the channel, Switch the station, Shop someplace else. It's not that difficult.

I am Pagan and I believe that people should celebrate whatever holiday they feel spiritually. I am sure that most adult Christians realize that its not actually Jesus's birthday and that day was chosen to "celebrate" his birth by the Christian Church a long time ago. I think every one should have Religious/Spiritual freedom.

Its only going to get worse. Its not offensive. Its just what they want to believe, by forcing their beliefs on others by attacking their traditions.

Also, in the bible it does say not to celebrate his birth but his death and resurrection. Not saying Christmas is bad, but its what its become, who can get the best deals! Or, who gets the most expensive gift. I am a Christian, and I am for one disgusted on what Christmas means. Its not what its supposed to be. But, I still celebrate it. And like you said, I don't go around attacking others for not celebrating it.

People are losing not only faith but tolerance of other beliefs. I for one am all MerryChristmas. I put the the christ back in it years ago. If this world is going to survive the only way is tolerance of all beliefs instead of snuffing them out. All beleif systems have a valid purpose and deserve to be practiced. Shalom.

Because Jesus was born in late Spring and the early Christians celebrated it on a Pagan holiday so they wouldn't be persecuted.

what does Christmas have to do with religion? it's a wanton spendfest orgy riddled with pagan symbolism, from the tree to the fat man in the red suit. The only thing less christian is Easter.

It's not.

I really just have no interest in your holidays. And I hate that wishing someone a Joyous Yule/Solstice is seen as derogatory and/or offensive. But everyone thinks Merry Christmas should be completely universal and those who don't use it are freaks.

its not...

why is it so offensive for atheists to celebrate it?

- at a public school in my city, they are putting on a play called "The Messiah"

dont tell me god is not in schools or in public.

honestly i could care less if there are christian decorations, jewish decorations or what have you. i think christmas should be a time of peace and friendship. not hate and arguments.

Besides the religious symbols in publicly owned places, I haven't heard of anybody doing this.
