I don't think the spirit is able to get knowledge without earning it. Death in itself is not work, and I don't think any amazing transformation in spiritual awareness happens. Some spirits are said to not know they are dead. I think we go into a similar state as death to some degree in our dreams. I don't think anyone with near death experiences, came out of it knowing an awful lot more, even though it may have altered their outlook on life and death. I think one of the reasons psychic are not very accurate, is because spirits don't have perfect accuracy.

No. The Bible tells us that "the dead know not anything." (Ecclesiastes 9:5, Job 14:21).
When we die, we sleep in the grave until Christ returns (Revelation 20:5). If we have been saved, we are resurrected into new, permanent bodies. We will still look the same, but we will be a young, perfect version of ourselves, without disease or blemish (Philemon 3:21).
If we have not been saved, we will sleep in the grave for another 1,000 years until Christ returns a second time to punish the wicked. They will then be resurrected into their old, mortal bodies, and fire will come down from Heaven and consume them, never to exist again. (They will not be tortured forever.)
So, to answer your question, no, people who die have no awareness of anything that is going on up here (Ecclesiastes 9:6). They are in a state of "dreamless sleep" until Christ returns.

i dont know nor have i formed any opinions as to wether it happens immediatly at death. i dont think so...but i do believe we will gain enlightenment unto all things once we are with the savior. THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION....
i disagree with jules about seeing things here on earth tho . there is no sadness or tears in heaven...how can one look upon this world and find no sadness or tears?

i believe that when you die your soul moves on and you are able to see and know everything that is going on on earth. i also believe that the dead are somehow able to contact the living not directly but through some other source like by another person maybe.

Don't know haven't been there. Neither has anyone else here, so ultimately this question is a waste of your time.
