I don't like to see a good animal that has passed on waste to nothing so I have got into the habit of picking up recently killed animals off the highway and then taking them home and preparing for my evening meal. My Wife and kids go mad at me but I think it makes sense - what are your thoughts?

No. As a matter of fact, it is a delicay as long as it is fresh. And ofcourse if the animal was obliterated there may be tiny fragments of bone and road material. It does make sense. I would say less thatn a couple of hours in the summer and substantially longer in the cold months.

Just make sure it's fresh. Try nailing a phesant. They taste great. There may be game laws that could get you in trouble for having them (any roadkill). Watch our for rabies in fox and coon. Don't eat them if the head is damaged.

properly prepared and properly cooked meat is one and the same no matter where it came from.
But how do you know how long it's been sitting there and what other insects animals diseases have touched it.
There's a reason for slaughterhouses and it's to keep the process under somewhat sanitary conditions.

What type of roadkill. It also depends on how long the animal has been on the highway. I would not want to eat roadkill.

as long because it somewhat is clean, no it`s no longer. No distinction than eating a chicken that has been slaughtered in a chicken production unit. human beings in starving international places might provide their eye-tooth for clean meat of any variety. lots of them are fortunate in the event that they devour meat two times in a twelve months.

I would eat a deer that I ran over myself. My Dad would scoop up roadkill and feed it to the chickens. Eating roadkill that you don't know how old it is is asking for botulism poisoning.

Of course not. What difference does it make if it gets shot by a hunter or run over by a vehicle?

We've had deer before that my dad's friend hit, it was in good shape so they skinned it and split up the meat. I don't know if I'd eat any other roadkill, but since we know how long it was there & who hit it and it was still in good shape but dead I figured it was okay....

Yuck! You don't know if the animals had rabies, sickness or any number of problems. I think it is risky.
