Treating an enemy as a friend turns them into a friend. You just have to be willing to be the first to ofer empathy and compassion.
If this question is hitting you as hard as it seems, I highly recommend Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg and the kid's book Enemy Pie.
(For what it is worth, the Sermon on the Mount, the Good Samaritan, and the book of Micah have much to say to Christians on this topic.)

Forgiveness, and the good in human nature. I am very happy to hear this from you. You clearly are stronger and have a better heart than most.
I think everyone has the potential to do what you did, but very few have the strength of heart you seem to have. You did a very good thing, and I hope more people will begin to do the same. Peace be with you.

Technically speaking........... Turning is process carried out on a 3-jaw or a 4-jaw chuck lathe. Fit the object on the jaw, select the speed. Fix a turning, boring, parting or a drilling tool to tool post as per job to be done. Start the machine and machining process. Friendly speaking............. Here we have only one pair of jaw,but sufficient enough to hold our enemy. Our diplomatic talk is the tool to turn, bore, part or grill(drill). We need a proper acumen, like an ace lathe operator to machine with the required tolerance.

Road rage comes to mind - have you ever smiled while someone in another car was ranting? It totally takes the wind out of their sails.

I think it's usually alcohol. Which, paradoxically, also turns friends into enemies. Were you drinkin when you hugged her?
