To the best of my knowledge, these have never existed in the Middle East/Mediterrean, where the bible is centred. Were they created as a backup plan? Is it the devil's attempt at a parody of mammals? Was Australasia not affected by the flood?

Questioner: That's a pretty interesting site, and it does indeed cover some of my points. The ones covered, however, seem to be using theories proposed decades ago when plate tectonics weren't in vogue. Land bridges went a long, long time ago, and a Pangean super-continent would neither have seperated quickly enough since the flood, nor explain why we only see marsupials on one (with tiny exceptions in America, which doesn't help) continent. If they migrated, every other migration on this sort of timescale leaves specimens all over the place.

I've never heard of the idea of all the animals being created in the Middle East. Even if Adam and Eve were created there (and we really cannot know because of the Noahcian flood) this wouldn't have necessarily applied to animals, which it is more likely that God would have put directly in the habitat that they were designed for (although there may have been some minor changes since then via natural selection).

Edit: By the way, do evolutionists really suppose that so many similar animals in Austrailia can simply be explained by saying that they all underwent convergent evolution into animals we find elsewhere on the planet?

After the Flood, all animals radiated out from the area of Turkey. History proves that the domestication of animals began in that area about 4,000 years ago. Marsupials are just another kind of animal; they would have been able to travel faster than mammals because they carried their young in pouches over thousands of miles as opposed to mammals who would have to proceed slower for their young who had to travel by their side. Marsupials would have reached Australia and Austronesia before the mammals. Also, immediately after the Flood, all continents would have been connected, because the shore level would have been the current continental shelf, which is under water. The Ice Age that immediately followed the Flood would have lowered sea levels to allow animals to travel to any place on the globe. Later, when the glaciers melted, the sea levels would rise and cut them off from other animal populations.
Another reason why marsupials seem to thrive in Australia may be the harsh environment. Babies that are protected from the harsh elements and predators in their mother's pouches are more likely to survive. Most of the mammals that currently live in Australia are introduced.

Look at all the wonders in nature. I don't understand how anyone can look at the beauty and diversity of all the beings on this plant and question the existence of a higher power. He created all, from the blue whale down to the sparrow. Why doubt that marsupials had a place in his plan?

'The best of my knowledge' -- now there's a thin reed to lean on.
The (far more) basic question is, Did God create the marsupials ? If so, then we can argue til the kangaroos come home. But of course you mean: He didn't create them (and I would just like to add a little holiday inhumanity). Good job.

'new' creatures are being discovered all the time, even though they were created in the beginning, Australia was effected by the Flood. They were created in the beginning ,just like everything else. For more very valid Q's like yours, go to www.answersingenesis.org (esp. to findout just how Austraila was effected by the Flood)

Perfectly, because if they fit in the science of evolution, what would be their predecessor?

P.S. I believe in evolution, things must evolve or die.
