OK, first I don't want to offend anyone, it's purely just a question I have had for a long time. I have 3 uncles one that still is a fire chief, and the other two have been retired for many years. I don't see any of them very offten, so I can't ask them.

Question is why when firemen are at home (not on call) wear their fire department t-shirts? I know you are proud that you save lives everyday, (and you should be....congrats to you) but I don't see other types of careers where their t-shirts. Doctors don't walk around in scrubs or hospital t-shirts that say, I'm a surgeon who works at......and they save lives too.

Again, please don't leave a ton of negitive feedback, It's purely just a question.

And if your not a firemen, do you see firemen do this?

My husband (a fireman) does the same thing. I really don't know, but he is proud and he never wants to do any other line of work. With that being said, he HAS gotten special treatment when wearing his shirts off duty (gotten out of tickets, discounts, etc.) Everyone loves a hero, I guess.

There's a few reasons why firemen do this.

The t-shirts are really, really comfortable.

You don't have to think about what you're going to wear.

They are practical around the house since they are tight fitting and won't get caught in any thing they decide to tinker with.

And like a police officer or a doctor, you are a fireman, 24-7. It is a badge of honor. Only a few are selected each year.

If he got called to work because of a shortage of men, he would be there in a flash instead of having to change from his Hawaiian shirt into something cooler - like his t-shirt.

Generally, a person in a firefighter t-shirt is one that can be trusted.

Since the equipment is so heavy, the t-shirt is the coolest/lightest shirt he could wear.
