To make mine a little more exciting I use hamburger, and sausage (sometimes sweet and spicy) I alternate between layers. I season the meat with salt, pepper, and garlic when cooking before assembling.

I would just use salt and pepper. The onions, garlic and herbs that are added will provide plenty of flavor.
Here is my recipe (it's pretty easy):
Prepare 1 box of lasagne noodles. I like to use the No bake noodles, but some people don't.
I make a tomato sauce with meat:
1 pound of ground beef
1 pound of italian sausage (sweet or spicy)
1 cup of chopped onion
2 tbsp chopped garlic
2 large cans of tomato puree
italian seasoning, salt, and pepper to taste.
(if you have fresh oregano, basil, marjoram that is great, but most people don't so the dried herbs are fine)
1. Remove the sausage from the casings, if necessary. Brown the ground meats. Add the onion and garlic and cook until the onions are translucent (almost clear). Add the rest of the ingredients and let the sauce simmer.
Cheese filling:
1 container of ricotta cheese
2 eggs
1 cup of parmesan cheese
1 tsp of italian seasoning
Combine the 4 ingredients and mix until well combined.
You will need mozzarella cheese. How much is up to you. I use about a pound for this recipe.
Place a layer of sauce in the bottom of a baking dish. Top with a layer of noodles, followed by a layer of the cheese filling and a layer of mozzarella. Continue layering the ingredients: sauce, noodles, cheese filling and mozzarella. Top the last layer of noodles with sauce. Add a final layer of mozzarella. Bake until golden and bubbly. About 30 minutes maybe.

Best Lasagna
Ingredients-
1 (16 ounce) package lasagna noodles
1 pound ground beef
1 onion, chopped
salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
4 cups ricotta cheese
1 cup grated Romano cheese
2 1/2 cups spaghetti sauce
1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
2 medium zucchini, sliced
1 cup fresh basil leaves
Preparation-
Bring a large pot of water to a rapid boil. Boil lasagna noodles 6 to 8 minutes until al dente. Drain and rinse with cold water. Lay noodles flat and remove excess water with a paper towel.
In a skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Add onion, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Cook until there is no remaining pink color in beef. Drain any liquids and set aside.
In a large bowl, mix together ricotta cheese, Romano cheese, 2 cups of the spaghetti sauce and the seasoned ground beef. Mix until well blended. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
Add a thin layer of spaghetti sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Add a layer of noodles lengthwise and a few noodles in the opposite direction. Pour in a generous layer of ricotta mixture on top of noodles. Top ricotta layer with several basil leaves. Add another layer of noodles lengthwise. Spread on 1 cup of the mozzarella cheese. Line up the zucchini slices on top of the mozzarella cheese. Add another thin layer of ricotta cheese. Add the last layer of noodles lengthwise. Top the noodles with the remaining spaghetti sauce, several more basil leaves in an eye catching arrangement and top with the remaining 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese.
Bake in a preheated oven for 50 to 55 minutes. If Mozzarella cheese becomes too browned, loosely cover with a piece of foil.

Before making the hamburger patties mix in chopped onions and season all. My hubby does it when he grills them, but it should work on the stove too. Make sure you use ground round, not just ground beef. Tastes much better and less fat.

Instead of just ground beef, try mixing in some ground pork, sausage and ground veal.
