Maybe Revelations is Referring To The United States ?
Just by memory and in passing I can think of a couple of quotes saying that - 'Every country will drink of their(the great prostitute) luxuries' and eventually that country will be destroyed and 'ships will pass-by and the people will say that no one lives there anymore' .
I recognize that we do have many good people here , but there's no denying how MATERIALISTIC and HYPOCRITICAL and JUDGEMENTAL we have become . .. . . ME ME ME. . . BLING BLING BLING. . . Sue Happy - You wronged me, now you're gonna pay , and pay BIG-TIME - Face-lifts and Botox to make us 'appear' like someone we're not , My Property , I own that - Ipods, Blackberries , Nose-rings and Eyebrow-Rings, Facebook, MYspace, 'Reality Shows' , Celebrity , Everybody thinks they deserve their 15 minutes of fame , YouTube, Fancy Cars ,
And one of the most baffling of all -- The 'feeling' that no one dare say anything that 'may' offend anybody .
Could it be us ?

ADDED NOTE -- Let's not forget the common 'Blame Game' . Nobody seems to take responsibility for what they've done. . . it's always somebody elses doing, somebody elses fault, somevbody else caused me to do this.

SIGH - Pointing out that there's no 's' at the end of 'revelation' does no good and offers no solutions, no answers and is in direct violation of the rules of this forum .

What I really love is how hateful people are towards others beliefs these days. I have to give you credit for still posting this long when every evolutionist, humanist, or atheist will respond with obvious bile.
I've actually thought a question though I've rarely asked it. What if our terrorist "buddies" were actually on to something with the US being the seat of evil in the world today. Don't get me wrong, I don't condone terrorism. But I can see how a strong spiritual power would look on our country with a bit of distaste. Plenty of Americans do.
The thing with Revalation is that it is almost intentionally ambiguous. And I am not insinuating that you are wrong for reading it or even believing in it. However, I honestly don't think that there is anyone who can figure out what the book is saying beyond the obvious "Watch out! Something's coming to get you! In a good way or a bad way its up to you."
For all I know, the "country" is Earth and the colonies left after we've destroyed the planet will pass by in ships and mourn a dead world.
Good question though.

Earnest, we have a problem of being much too materialistic, yes. As we see here on this board and in our real lives daily, this country is in big trouble in its efforts to turn away from God. Technology has widen the chasm of temptation and caused many to turn away from God. Addictive personalities are easily seduced before the knowledge of a loss of control has even made it into awareness.
Yes, I look around and it is so easy to get scared about the soul of America.
However, we need to be constantly aware of the fact that we in this country are free to seek out and follow the true God. Despite the naysayers who try so hard to confuse us otherwise, we know what this country was founded upon. We know that the nation has always been blessed with the spirit and bounty of God. Our forefathers blessed this country through their prayers and we are the recipients of those prayers even today, if we open our hearts to them.
Likewise, all we can do is to continue what our forefathers began - pray for the nation, pray for our leadership, pray for the bounty to be ever existent and act with integrity regardless of how many would rob us of all.
God bless.

Honey I don't see where it uses the expression great Satan but I can see where we could be Babylon the Great. We fit many of the prophecies of not only Revelation but many of the Old Testiment prophets such as Isaiah about the nature and influence of Babylon and Iraq which is where ancient Babylon was does not fit the bill and seriously who would mourn the loss of Iraq except maybe a few Dems and the Iraqis.
Usually in the bible when it talks about a woman, prostitute, etc it is refering to a religion therefore we are not the prostitute. However just look around and see which church or religion is trying to force its will on others and you might have a clue as to who the prostitue is.

No Hilary Rodham Clinton is neither the whore of the Book of Revelations nor a whore at all. You probably believe in evolution so why don't you crawl from the primordial slime of your ancestors and evolve to become a modern human being called homo sapiens sapiens.

Yes.
After reading the book referred to below, the reader will be left with no doubt that the Great Beast presented in the New Testament book of Revelation is the United States of America.
It will be known that all human beings have the mark of the beast in their right hand and/or forehead. There will be no doubt what has caused the human condition upon this earth and the problems that are associated with it. And there will be no excuse to not do what must be done to solve these problems.
...The “woman” who is described previously as being in the “wilderness,” is presented later as “sitting upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns” (17:3). The “woman in the wilderness” represents those saints who escaped the “dragon.” However, in Revelation 13:6–7, the “beast” is finally allowed to “overcome the saints,” and gain “power over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.” This prepares the reader appropriately to see the “woman sitting upon the beast.”
The description of the “woman” and the “beast” gives the reader all the information needed to understand what this “beast” represents. (See Revelation 17:3-5.)
The “beast” represents a political and social design established (“rise up”) by the societies of humankind (“out of the sea”) to satisfy the desires of human nature. This design “stands upon the sand of the sea,” meaning it covers the entire earth, as the “sand of the sea” represents the people of the earth:
That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; (Genesis 22:17)
The unquenchable desire for money, materialism, and worldly comforts to satiate human lust, is what the “beast” offers the “woman.” The governments and democracies (“ten horns”) of the world (“seven heads”/continents) are set up to please those whom they govern. When a democracy reigns with power, its sole purpose is to satisfy the wants of the constituents who support it. It cares nothing for the mandates of God (“the name of blasphemy”), which would create equality by providing for the needs of all people of the earth. The purpose of the “beast” is to allow for and provide the material wants and lusts of the heart (“a woman sit upon a scarlet colored beast”).
In modern terms, the best way to describe what the “beast” promises is: “The American Dream.” Later in Revelation, John presents how this hope and dream has “overcome the saints” of God, and is the desire of the whole world.
The book is one of the most amazing books I have ever read. It is free at the site below.

Along those lines, read the prophecies that say "Babylon, Babylon is fallen, is fallen". I think that almost exact same quote is in the Bible about 3-4 times.
Right after 9/11, I read that quote and got chills thinking about how it sounded like the twin towers because of the way it was repeated twice. New York specifically sounds like at least one fulfillment of "Babylon" with its "World Trade Center" as well as UN headquarters, and the rest of the description as you described above.
I can't help thinking about an old quote from Billy Graham--it was something to the effect of, "If God doesn't judge the US, He will have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah."
I would add to your list of atrocities of our American mindset and lifestyles as you mentioned above the destruction of the family, blurred gender roles, homosexuality, adultery, perversion, abuse, abortion, crime, violence, blasphemy against God, etc., etc. as things we as a culture and a nation will be held accountable for somehow some way.
Scary, isn't it?

The prostitute spoken of in Revelation refers to false religion. It is portrayed as a drunken prostitute who has power over many kingdoms and their peoples. This figurative woman commits fornication with many kings and is drunk with the blood of God’s true worshippers. (Revelation 17:1, 2, 6, 18) She has a name written on her forehead that matches her filthy and repulsive conduct. The name is “Babylon the Great, the mother of the harlots and of the disgusting things of the earth.”—Revelation 17:5.
As depicted by the immoral woman in Revelation, false religion has tremendous influence over governments. Resembling a woman not faithful to her marriage vows, false religion has prostituted herself by forming alliances with one political power after another. “Adulteresses, do you not know that the friendship with the world is enmity with God?” wrote the disciple James. “Whoever, therefore, wants to be a friend of the world is constituting himself an enemy of God.”—James 4:4.
Soon the world governments will take action against false religion. God will make it happen. (Revelation 17:17) Babylon the Great, the world empire of false religion, is doomed to destruction. “She will never be found again.”—Revelation 18:21.

Yes we have our problems.
U.S. has gone above and beyond in helping other countries when their backs against the wall.
I can see you point the time we would turn to that whore is when we turn fully away from G-d.
Than we will face His full wrath and it won't be pretty.
My prayers is whe don't wind up that way.
In the end it is up to us.
