How is this considered entrapment?
If the officer had not responded to the chat, he would have remained innocent. He made the choice to chat with what he thought was a 14 year old child, thereby committing a crime. The Police Dept. in no way forced that man to break the law.
He got very lucky. I can only hope that next time, he runs into a very angry daddy with a shotgun.

Yes, and the entrapment did work. They got what they were fishing for except the prosecutors didn't do a good enough job of keeping him in the live well.

He might not have gotten away with it if the prosecutors and investigators had done their jobs properly. Whether his career is at an end, or not, remains to be seen.

No his life is not destroyed, but it should be, if it was clear from the evidence that he thought he was talking to 14 year olds. That is creepy!

Whether he's guilty or not it sets a dangerous precedent that cops can get away with sex crimes on the Internet if they use this argument.
There was one law enforcement person on that Dateline NBC special. TBH, this whole thing disgusts the hell out of me.

He's full of crap of course. He just got lucky. Nobody "role plays" and pretends to be 14 when they are an adult.
