My provance too (more than likley the same one!). No I wouldn't be swayed to have a child just because, although if I was having one anyways it would be nice. I am kinda miffed because I never waited two years :p I think the majority of people who are responding do not realize it is money to keep the already pregnant and those who have already made the decision to be pregnant STAY in the provance once the child is born and NOT to encourage people to get pregnant simply for raising the population. It is a program to help stop the out migration. If they accept the money they agree to stay in the provance for x amount of years.
I think it is going to have an adverse affect that Danny probably never thought about with some extremly low income families doing it who can not afford a child as it is though. We have an extrmly low income provance and the majority of parents can not afford the children they have. Personally I think that the money could have been spent in a much better way, such as on early education and health care. We have the worst daycare programs and funding in the whole country, better to take care of those that ARE here instead of trying to bring in new ones.
The bonus is one part of a larger program, including a monthly top-up to employment insurance benefits for parental leave and a broadened day-care program. There was a similar program that worked very well in Quebec in the 90's

I think this is crazy! But No I would not. If someone does not want to have a child, and then they do just for 1000. $1000 will only last you maybe a week, a child will be with you forever. $1000 won't even pay the hospital bills.

A $1,000.00 wouldnt even pay for my daughters medical bills while she was in the NICU!!!!!! My husband makes that in one week. To raise a child it costs way more and no I wouldnt. Lets go and have a kid or adopt a baby so we can get money. Where does the love for this child come in at? An adoption can cost anywehre from $10,000 to $50,000. So, that is nothing compared to what it takes to raise a child.

Well if I was thinking it about it anyway, yes. Otherwise, like a previous answerer mentioned, that's not nearly enough compensation. In the U.S., the birth alone could cost you anywhere from $200 to $20,000 depending on if you have insurance and how good it is. I know we're paying huge premiums right now just so we don't have to pay full price for the birth.

I'd move to Australia if I were you. They pay a baby bonus of $4000.
I wish the USA would do something like this. We don't get mandatory paid maternity leave, so any amount of money would help make up for the loss of wages during that time.

I could see people doing it for the money, but a child cost way more than that. It wouldn't sway me, if I was ready for a child than great but I wouldn't get prego just to get the money.

i wouldn't have a child for money that is just wrong. kids cost6 way more than a thousand dollars. if you want to have a child do it cause you want to and be ready to show it unconditional love don't do it for money. besides that 1000 dollars wouldn't even get you all the baby stuff you need.
