The Catholic Bible has books that all other Christians don't have... is there a reason I shouldn't read those? The Catholics came first - and their Bible says its perfect - doesn't that mean my NIV is missing parts of the "real" and complete Bible?

You're missing a lot of godly wisdom, some very interesting history, and very inspiring spiritual stories by not reading the Catholic Bible. The books of Judith and Tobias are about faith and trust in God, no matter what Satan throws at you.

Wisdom, Ecclesiasticus, and Baruch have the same sort of godly lessons to teach that you'll find in Proverbs and Ecclesiastics. And the First and Second Books of Maccabees contain some fascinating history of the Jewish people.

By all means, read the Catholic Bible, and find out what you've been missing! :-)

There is no reason why you shouldn't read the Catholic Bible. There are only a few differences between the two. 1) In the Catholic Bible there are a few books that have not necessarily been added but have not been taken out. The books that have not been taken out tell a few more old testament stories i.e. Tobit, that were part of the Jewish tradition, and a little more history i.e. Maccabees. These books do not conflict with the main focus of scripture.
Keep in mind that the commentaries included in the Catholic Bible are from a catholic perspective just as other bible commentaries and side notes maintain the perspective of its editor/publisher. Above all, the Holy Spirit will direct your path in the way you should go. God Bless!

Several reasons. The catholics did not come first. The people responsible for compiling the bible did not know the difference between scripture and fiction. Less is more. Adding more books to an already confusing bible will be of no additional benefit. Do you see where the catholics are any better off than the protestants?. Jesus told us that The Holy Spirit would reveal all truth, so forget about anyone else explaining it to you. Your time and effort would be better spent learning to tell the difference between The Holy Spirit and the spirit of confusion.

Actually the Roman Catholic church came second as far as Christian churches go...you need to study history better...and their bible contains additional books for a reason...they were ordered to be added by the papacy...they may still hold some validity though...

You can burn that NIV bible of yours too...that was actually started by the Catholic church to help those people who couldn't understand old english text...

You SHOULD consider the Catholic Bible. ANY Bible you read that does not have 46 OT books, in addition to the 27 NT books, is a Bible that contains less that all the Divinely Inspried texts we are meant to read.

Martin Luther invented the doctrine of “scripture alone” (sola sriptura), but first he down graded from inspired to merely useful those he didn’t like, so he could say for the things he didn’t like, “it's not in the bible”: but it is not there because he removed it. So saying “scripture alone”, is actually dishonest as instead it is Martin Luther, not scripture who made the decision.

So by all means, read the Catholic bible and you’ll see what you’ve been missing.

PS Martin Luther didn’t physically remove the missing books, but put them to the back as “not inspired,” it is only in the last few centuries they were actually removed.

The Catholic bible is NOT God's word because the Roman Catholic church has altered it, making it a false doctrine. In Revelation, God says that no one is to add to or take away from His word. The Roman Catholics have added what they call 'The Apocrypha', which were written by man - not God. It is THEIR writings and so, they have added them to the bible, which again, is forbidden by God.

The NIV is also a terrible translation because words have been taken out and/or changed. When words are replaced with other words, words deleted, and/or verses deleted and/or changed, it distorts and changes the real meaning of God's word altogether. I read the KJV and that's the only version I stick with.

like each team - some Catholics do and a few human beings do not. i could not wager how a number of the congregation learn the bible on their very own. My church has a pair of religious study team -- our priest in simple terms instructed us approximately this team (and different communities supplied via the church) final Sunday. I even have won as Penance throughout Confession to study and mirror on bible passages. Doing the rosary is composed of meditating on Scripture passages and that's something we are inspired to do. I have not got any theory why you individually decide directly to not study the bible. The Catholic Church produces countless cloth to help people who do opt to check the bible, that is a superb factor. The bible itself tells us that interpretation could properly be complicated. interior the Acts of the Apostles, an Ethiopian of the 1st century recognised that he had prefer of an interpreter (Acts 8:30-35). the 2d Letter of Peter insists that "no prophecy of Scripture is an argument of very own interpretation" (2 Pt. a million:20), and it additionally observes that the letters of the apostle Paul contain "some confusing passages, the meaning of which the ignorant and untrained distort, as they do additionally interior the case of the different Scriptures, to their very own smash" (2 Pt. 3: sixteen). i think of people who study the bible making use of basically their very own very own adventure and comments are in probability of fake impact biblical teachings. they are extra possibly to place their comments earlier to Biblical teachings.
