there are two roads. one leads to hell, and the other leads to heaven. there is a guy at the fork, and you can ask him one quesiton that is answerable by yes or no. you don't know if the guy's an angel or a devil, and the angel always tells the truth while the devil always lies. what question will you ask him to know which way leads to heaven? (or to hell)

yes/no questions only. math questions don't qualify because it doesn't tell you anything about directions. you can only ask 1 question to know which way, so the question should already tell you if the guy's a devil or an angel ALONG with telling you where to go

Something like 'Is this the path that you came down from?' (point to a path.
If you are pointing to heaven then the angel will say yes, telling the truth. The devil will say yes, lying.
If you are pointing to hell then the angel will say no, telling the truth. The devil will say no, lying.
Therefore, if they say yes go down that path, if they say no take the other path.

Paradox =] i like these.. well..
"If I ask the other person if this is the way to 'hell', would he tell me that it is?"
Say I am pointing at the direction to heaven, which I did not know that it was. If I ask the angel this question, he knows that the devil will lie and the angel will tell me 'yes'. If I ask the devil this question, he knows the angel will say 'no' so the devil will lie to me and tell me 'yes'. The direction I'm pointing at therefore goes to heaven... and If I were pointing to hell and I did not know if it was or not, if the I asked the devil, he knows that the angel would say 'yes' so he lie would say 'no' and if I ask the angel, he knows that the devil would lie and say 'no' so the he would say 'no' therefore that direction goes to hell.
So ask that and if its 'No', then it is hell and if its 'Yes' then its heaven.
I tried =P

So its one guy, I heard this riddle a long time ago and it was two people one would always tell the truth and one of them always lies, the key to that would be asking either one of them would the other one tell me this certain road lead to heaven.
if you were asking the angel the angel would be telling the truth if you asking the devil the devil would always lie. so the devil would have to lie about witch path the angel would say and the angel would tell the truth,
However if it was one man.
it makes it much more difficult. and i don't think i have the answer,

Is my jacket black?
(my jacket is black)
new answer,
If you were a devil, would you take this path to go to hell?"
If yes, take the opposite
If no, Take that path
Another new answer:
Point to a path and ask:
"Does this path lead to where you are from?"
If yes, take that path
If no, take the other path
Both the Devil and Angel will say they are from heaven, I like the twist on this riddle, very good.

Would the angel be telling the truth if they said that this is the road to heaven? The Angel would say yes if it were and the devil would say no.

Ask him: Is this the road to heaven? while pointing to the road you think it is. Whatever he says, go the opposite way. Since you don't know whether he's an angel or the devil.

Will you tell me the direction the other guy would have pointed me to?
If angel answered, he would tell the truth and point to hell and we choose the other direction. If devil answered, he would lie and point to hell too. So we choose the other direction.

I would ask him if he was the Devil? if he said YES then it's him and if he says NO then I know my Angel told me the truth. The Devil isn't going to deny telling me he is the Devil.
