I am always on top of class but I usually forget things. Is it because my head is already filled and concentrated with the information I get from school ?

All the comments below are wrong. There is no connection between smartness and memory, each of them is controlling by DIFFERENT sides of brain. That's why when people have car accidents or something they lose their memories but stay smart.

Emma has the right answer!!

(no, I don't know her, but, I have a high IQ, work health care since late 1980's, and had a head injury. My head injury was and STILL is missed or questioned by certain docs who don't know ME or my head injury OR my case, as they say I am TOO SMART to have a head injury. I have almost NO short term memory....the few days BEFORE my injury are screwed up in my memory, some of the events DURING my injury I can remember....but, only because I had to document them in writing right after....with help, and I can recall cases I worked on a DECADE ago with clear recall of parts of it, yet...cant remember names of friends, or neices, or if I just took my medicine 2 minutes ago.)

So, I have no further things to add....other than I really think Emma had the correct answer before me, so, she should get it. Memory and intelligence are not the same thing.

it has more to do with your priorities, those things you find important to you will be filed in long term memory, those things you don't find of primary importance you tend to forget. While I was in school, I solved the problem by taping all of my lectures, you hear a lecture three or four times and you tend to remember a great deal more of it.

i dont know...i have always wondered that too because i am very forgetful (short term memory) but i am extremely smart( i go to a special school that is like a college even though im in high school...its hard to get in) i think that it might be because i remember reading in tom sawyer(even though its fiction) that a guy memorized all the bible verses and then went crazy because he memorized all of them

It happens just as you said with all that you do have in mind already some things are bound to slip, with me it happens especially with things that may not rank at the top of the list of importance.
