For the same reason that Christians usually answer questions about atheism with such things as "Jesus loves you, you'll go to Hell, blah, blah, blah". We really couldn't care less what you choose to believe. Just keep it OUT of the laws, schools, and government that apply to and affect everyone. Christianity DOESN'T apply to us just as Hindu and Muslim dogma don't apply to you.

Probably for 2 points.
Then there are some that just like to see their name in a lot of answers.
Then you have those that think they are being clever
People should probably just not answer questions if they really dont have an answer for it. When someone is directing a question at believers and an atheist answers that its all fake or there is no God then they are just being obnoxious. A lot of christians turn around and do the same thing. They dont really answer a question but go off on their belief in God and how you better believe or else.
What is annoying is when people respond well they have the freedom of speech if you dont like it ignore it, etc. Noone is debating that point. Of course they have the right to type it. But the question is should they do it. Just because you have the right to do somethign doesnt mean you should. It also has nothing to do with a difference of opinions and beliefs when the person isnt answering the question. That is lame, too. It isnt that you dont want to hear different opinions. The point is that if they arent answering the question then you dont want to hear their opinion at the time.

I think everyone, no matter what their personal beliefs, has an interest in discussing belief. I am a Pagan with a degree in Christian theology - I enjoy discussion with other people regardless of their PERSONAL belief.
I have been a Yahoo Answers person for a long time - just now on a new account. This is really not a new question. Not to be rude - but to be honest - I would think that a Christian person would welcome discussion. If you think your faith is being attacked, please, join the club. Everyone thinks their personal faith is being attacked. This is because people are defensive.
For a real faith expereince, we have to move beyond being defensive and realize that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Yahoo has created a place for expression of opinion. If that is something you are not comfortable with, perhaps you could seek out a Christian only website. Just a thought.
Happy Day.

You seem to be making generalisations about people who do not follow your belief in God. Also about people who do.
However, everyone is different. If you ask someone a question about their belief they will answer accordingly.
Some may wish to try and persuade you to their way of seeing while others may not be bothered.
Belief in God (or lack of it) is not a market place; it is not a question of having something to 'offer' since ultimately every person's belief is their own and what is right for one may not be right for another.
Which is why people who set out to convert others often make one fundamental mistake: they confirm and yet at the same time deny the fact that nobody or nothing but their own conscience and level of spiritual awareness caused them to adopt their chosen belief.
Confirm it by saying to the other, 'this is what I believe', and deny it by saying to that same person, 'this is what you should believe.'
Of course not everyone actually does this, but some people find it hard to draw a clear line between the two.

Something to offer you?
You mean like truth? Honesty? A Frank admission to having ignorance of the supernatural, and thus a clear decision to not believe in it. You mean like an open mind to possibilities as compared to your close minded, one-tracked dogma which you have accepted and bought into as a child.
No. Nothing that compares to your blind faith. Sorry. We are waay above all that.

First off I'm a Believer. I believe they don't come to answer the question to be offensive, but they come to be in-lighted. By being a child of GOD we are to bring them closer to him. Let them know that he is real. It could also be the devils way of pulling believers to him. But as we say THE devil IS A LIE. I ask all you non believers to just try to pray to him and when you PRAY have FAITH. Ask GOD to help you to understand him get closer to him. Seriously have FAITH when you pray and he will never let you down. The Lord has bless me so much with understanding that I thank him for those days when I was lost. I thank him for all the trials and tribulations I had to go throw in my life because it brought me closer to him. He is EVERYTHING he is your friend when you feel no one else is when you feel life is over he is right there waiting on YOU to TURN to him ask for forgiveness.
HE IS SO SO SO REAL
Merry Christmas
GOD BLESS

Personally I think you should believe what you want. However, this is a discussion forum so I would expect to see some debate about it.
I think what puts a lot of people off is answers such as you got already about 'denial'. I think this sort of language puts peoples backs up as it sounds a bit pompous.

Reverse the question....do you think nonbelievers will forget about their own nonbeliefs and 'go oh this person is right and I am wrong?"
Nonbelievers are merely answering the question to the best of their ability....they believe there aren't any gods, so they are telling you in response to your question about god.

Yes, I have something to offer by way of comparison. The indigenous folkway of the Northern European people that teaches life is hard but good. That we don't need to be "saved" but rather we need to learn from our mistakes and grow wiser. That we value our freedom and give honor to those who've earned it, not those who hold a threat over our heads. That death is nothing to fear.
