Yes they do work.
Speakers job is to interface to the amplifier.
It does not care about the power source, only that the impedance is correct for the amplifier output.

If the speakers are passive (they do not have internal amplification), they can be used anywhere with any brand of stereo equipment. If they are active (like a powered subwoofer), they can be used in the USA. But, you have to get an adaptor for the power plug.

Many years ago, I picked up an Onkyo tuner in Japan and the plug has round conductors, instead of the flat ones used in the USA. So, I went to a travel store and got an adaptor that allowed me to plug it in here. It worked fine.
