If she’s the salon owner, you don’t tip her anything, but if she’s just a chair renter/employee, tip 15%.

Well, I always judged tipping by the work done, and does the stylist pay attention to what I want done, or does she do what she thinks I will look good with. Also, other factors, did she talk to everyone else in the salon, while I was paying her for her attention...Did she actually cut the hair evenly to match both sides of my head. If I go home and find she has done an uneven cut...I go right back immediately and make her fix it. I am not happy about it either. I have paid her to do the job and the least she can do is do it right.
If I am paying 80.00 for a cut, color, and style...and am only there for 1 1/2hrs....I will not tip. She is making enough. Generally, I tip a flat $5.00 if all is well and I am really happy before I leave. And I do check what is done and let them fix it if it needs to be.......Tipping should really be based on the service given....and not part of the payment.

$2 for shampoo or eyebrow wax. If the haircut is less than $50, then I'd tip $7-$15 varying if I feel they did well or not. More than $50 (whether with color or not), I tip about 15%. Extra if they have drinks, snacks, etc.
I would tip her the same as before....but if that puts a hole in your pocket, then the next visit, pay with cash and just bring enough.
Next time, you should tip because they do a good job and not because you feel you need to support them but that was very kind of you to do so.

you have to remember that she could have to pay rent on her space, just because she is licsensed does not mean that she has more income. If you think that she does a good job then tip her based on that. My hair is normall $70 and i tip $20-$30 everytime. More often $20 unless there is a holiday or birthday coming up for my guys family. Anyways think about it.... How often do you really get your hair done. For me its 2-3 times a year and i think that i can afford to tip a little more since it is so infrequent.

When in a salon 5-10% is customary although many people tip 20% as they would in a restraunt. I always tip at least 10% and if someone goes out of their way for me or gives me a discount as a regular customer I will tip 20%. Also, be sure to tip in cash if possible, it means they get their tip right away instead of waiting until their paycheck comes.

I think that a proper tip for a hairstylist is 15%. Not 7or 10 rent prices are sky high in Edmonton. Every could use an extra dollar for that here.

Well now that she's licesenced she has a secure source of income. You should'nt give her too much but enough to show that her service is great as you say. I give my styleist 10% of what I pay. I pay 15 so he recieves $1 or $2 dollars tip.

Depends on what you have done. My stylist charges $13 for a cut and I always give her $2 tip. If I have her color my hair or highlight it, it usually costs me around $45-60 so I tip $5-$6.
I am also always bringing her something, her favorite candle, she loves dolphins so when I find something that reminds me of her...I take it to her.
