Unfortunately, you must tell the truth on most applications, especially for a teaching position. I was in the same situation about three years ago, when I applied for a job at the hospital. They asked me if I had been convicted of any crimes, and I was terrified to be honest. The human resource manager told me that they would be doing a background anyway, so I was honest. She was totally cool, as I only have misdemeanors. I got the job, but if I had lied about my record, I would have been screwed. It is best to tell the truth about this, because they are surely going to find out anyway, background checks are mandatory in most states for teaching positions.

Okay... it's really a matter of language. If the question is "Have you ever been convicted of a felony?" the answer is "No" ... because you haven't been. When the federal government asks you a question.. they're asking for specific information... and in this case, they want to know.. and have the RIGHT to know... if you've ever been arrested. They will follow up on it, and you'll have to explain it to them.... but you need to be honest... or your application for citizenship will very likely be denied. Of COURSE you have to tell the truth... an arrest is not a conviction...and they worded their question purposefully.

Ok, they will do a background check for teaching jobs. Most places that have you working with children will. They will learn of the conviction one way or another. It would be best if it came from you and not from a background check.

i checked yes for an assult charge on my app to starbucks, in the end i guess it didnt matter because after court it came out to be disorderly conduct, so maybe now that its a misdemeanor it wont be that big of a deal, maybe you could explain the situation on the app, so that they will understand, on my job interview i explained it and they didnt seem to worried.
good luck!!!

Is this still on your record? I would definetely ask a lawyer about trying to get it removed. I would think a judge would be happy to work with you as long as the rest of your record is clean.
