i understand why they are doing this as it was only 6 months ago someone near where i live deceided to run around the estate with one and ended up having the armed police everywhere, however how will this work for people like myself who collect them as a display purpose and nothing more, i have collected them for some years now and i have a beautiful collection of 15 samurai swords, they are displayed in a locked display cabinet that is built into the wall of my home and are never removed , how will the ban affect me .

I do not know but I must say that it is a sad day when a country bans such things, it is not the implement that is dangerous, it is the hands and mind behind them that is!
I hope you can keep your collection.

I clearly remember collectible firearms worth "not tens of thousands but rather Hundreds of thousands of dollars" being thrown in a pile to be melted down when the UK government put the total firearm ban in place.
I am very sure that now even BB and pellet,(air rifles) are banned there.
I think this was during the time they were setting the goal to have cameras on every street corner.(this goal was met).
Your government has some real "Problems" with basic "Freedom" of it's people.
What can I say?
They tried that here with us and we kicked their @ss all the way back across the Atlantic.
So lets see, your phones are tapped, there are cameras on every street corner, they have taken away your firearms, now your swords are next.
The problem is not violence, the problem is with your Government!
Maybe you can find a Museum that will display your swords,at least that will keep them from being melted down for building materials.
How on earth can you people live like this?

Not being to familiar with the laws in UK that is a good question since there are so many historic type collectors of weapons and swords in Europe and the UK. I would think they would come up with a permit type system much like they have for firearms and think that if they ban them outright then they will have to ban so many other types of tools and weapons as well.

The ban won't affect you. It's imitation swords which are sold on the high street and the internet which will be banned:
"However, ministers say they have recognised there is a special case for exemptions for genuine collectors of the original weapons and acknowledge there is a legitimate role for the blades in some forms of martial arts.
"We recognise it is the cheap, easily available samurai swords which are being used in crime and not the genuine, more expensive samurai swords which are of interest to collectors and martial arts enthusiasts.""

Hi there
Training in an art that uses various types of samurai swords i truly welcome the ban. There has been a shop in my local town centre selling imitation swords to all sorts of people. This is why the law needs to be introduced. When i purchase weapons from my local martial arts store they always ask for proof of training ie a licence. If you train in Akido, iaido, Okinawan Kobudo, Kendo and Bujinkan you have nothing to fear providing you can prove you are a practising student.
These types of cheap swords are useless to any serious practitioner anyway.
Best wishes

If you own genuine samurai swords that cost you allot of money i think you will be alowed to keep them. The nutters that run around the streets with them buy immitation swords (stainless steel). After all a knife is just dangerous and they couldnt ban all knives it would be impossible.Im sure your collection will be safe but i think they will just ban the cheap immitations.
