Friend,

the Shortest and also the biggest prayer is the only one , that is ''AUM.''

akaara+ Ukaara+ Makaara + 1/2 matra silence = Aum.

It is Sabdha Brahma also called Pranavam.

Scriptures declare '' Aum ityekaaksharam Brahah.''
That is '' Aum is nothing but the Brahman"..

It is one of the four mahaa vaakyams (the great words said about God ).

You know all this, and know that you know. But for some readers sake I typed.Thank you .

That is what I think.

if a person is busy for 23 hours and 59 minutes in a day on conducting duties including the normal rest required for survival, the balance one minute prayer is sufficient to reach the God. but if a person has free time of 24 hours and he does not pray for one hour, that may not be sufficient!

A prayer has to be from heart so no words are required.
Surrendering God witjout a word is the shortest prayer.
For the purpose of recital, I think O....o....o....M is the shortest prayer.

Now, for the best prayer...

The prayer that brings God to you is the best prayer.
Remember..if disciple is ready, master will find him!
Also please refer to 'Power of Prayer' question by H.H. Shri Shri Ravishanker in this column. It's simply out of this world.

Oh God, I know that this world is beautiful. The hills, rivers, high tide of sea, monsoon showers, colourful flora and fauna, animals, birds, beautiful women, smile of child, all the emotions, plesure and pain etc all are to be relished.
But I do not know whether you exist or not.
Please bless my knowledge and ignorance alike.

God look in our hearts and spirits, not to the shortness of the prayers. And I think that most helping prayer is that the God's will to be done, because whatever it comes it's God's will.
