Like Moses, who brought the Ten Commandments -- an entirely new set of religious doctrines -- down from the Mount. Like Peter, who presided over the Church of Jesus Christ, having been ordained with the Holy Priesthood to do so? Only a man like this, who has been ordained by the laying on of hands, and called by God to preside over the Saints can seriously be considered a prophet. Nobody else can receive revelation for the world. People are entitled to personal revelation from God, but not revelation for those who they have not been ordained to be stewards over. Moral influences from an unordained person could not possibly mean they are a prophet. Get real.

the bible was written long ago and the prophets wrote it then and called them self phophets. Now we have the oral roberts and his talking to god and see where it lead before his death we do have new media to varify things today. We just cant make some claim and say it a 1000 times and make it gospil. We have to have some proof today and not all blind faith. It is also the fact that in the 1500 when the bible became such a big thing only about 2 percent of the people could read now the percentage is a bit higher. A lot can read but still let others translatre for them. These translaters like to think they are phophets. Another fact is most of the beliefs the phophets wrote about in the bible have turned out not to be true. A rabbit is not a cud chewing rodent it isnt even a rodent and the bat is not from hell even though it is a mammal and can fly . There are not 2 lights in the sky one for day and one for night and the sun is not pulled across the sky and it cant stop so some christian can kill a 1000 more of the enemy. People believe what they are told at an early age and if practiced through ritual they belive it all their life. Too many times today the frauds are pointed out by the media. Not all but some at least leaving resonible doubt.

The problem is that so few understand the full nature of the calling of prophet. They think that a prophet is merely one who can tell of the future -- if what they say comes to pass, it's a prophet, if not -- false prophet or con man... Or they think that a prophet is merely one who testifies of Christ -- and therefore many good men or women who preach virtue & claim salvation through Jesus Christ can be a prophet.

These are gifts of the spirit - not the calling or office of prophet. The prophet is the leader of Christ's church on earth. He is also a seer and revelator. He holds the higher Priesthood, not only the levitical.

Merry Christmas.

As a Christian myself, I don't find it so hard to believe.

As long as the world is going to exist, humanity will always be tempted to go astray, which is precisely why God Will Always Continue to Send us His Prophets.

A few modern day Prophets are Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Pope John Paul II, & Sr. Lucia Dos Santos(one of the 3 children from Fatima who received messages from the Blessed Virgin Mary, & the only one who grew up to deliver Mary's Messages to the world).

It isn't. I believe Jim Wallis is a prophet.

Not as in fortune-teller the way it's used today but as in a voice of discerning moral reason calling us to account.

But who falls into that category will largely be determined by pre-religious mental models. Pat Robertson would fit for many people but I think he's full of sh*t.

Who says there aren't?

I know there are preachers that are true to God's Word and preach it.
To me, THEY are God's 'prophets'----
ONLY if it's in God's Word.

THOSE are MY thoughts,......
