chasis and springs wont support a diesel. Diesels way amost twice as much a s a gas engine. You might be able to ust the new 3.8 V6 chrysler diesel but that is a huge task.

I owned a 1977 Cherokee 401 lower back in 1990 ,, it have been given apx 11-12 mpg. It replaced into an automated and complete time four wheel stress. production facility motorcraft carburator. I presently very own a 1978 Cherokee chief with a 401 automated.. It gets approximately 7-10 mpg depending on how i music it... None production facility carb.. A 360 would do alittle extra powerful in case you are able to save your foot out of it.. additionally extra powerful mileage could be won from a instruction manual transmission.. The "opt for a trac" flow case replaced into basically area time four wheel stress. So it may ask your self me in case you are able to desire to arise to fifteen mpg,,,, extra present day Ones with area time four wheel stress are the thank you to flow while you're frightened approximately gasoline.

Pure folly. Diesel engines are expensive and the entire vehicle is designed for the use of these engines. You would have to replace the engine $7,000.00, the transmission $3500.00, the fuel system $1,500.00, the wiring harnesses, $800.00, the front suspension $1,000.00. Why don't you just trade it in on a diesel Liberty?

This should get you going. If you go with a Non Tier Rated engine and some tier I, you have mechanical throttle control, and so a much easier installation.
Have thought about it, but no real time.

Unless you have more money than you know what to do with, forget this idea. It would require a complete engine change, chassis upgrade and lots of new wiring. It would be cheaper to purchase a new vehicle. If it's for a hobby, it will keep you busy for a long, long time. Good luck with it.
