On the UES, I like Gracie Mews (81st and 1st), Yorkville Diner (79th btwn 2nd/3rd), Nectar (82nd and Madison), and Viand (78th and Madison).

If you are wealthy, take a cab over to Jersey. Along either US 3 or 46 their will be a dozen great diners within 10 miles of the city. Any one of the multitude of little pizza stands in Midtown are very good. There used to be the Post and Coach in the West Side Port Authority. It's probably a Krispy Kreme now.

The Madison on 53rd and First has a complete diner menu, and they're open 24/7. Lots of neighborhoods have diners, but that's the one I like in Midtown.
