Okay, he had his leg removed from diabetes. I watched my grandpa go through the same thing with two legs years ago.

Anyways...my question is, what is the psychology behind my uncle being thirsty, and feeling the nurses are mistreating him?

My grandfather did the same thing. I am just wanting to know if this is common?

Thanks

Thanks, I know that sitting around in pain for over a week with such a bad surgery would also make me cranky. I am mostly wondering why he is thirsty though. He is bloated, and has kidney problems so I understand the fluid restrictions.

when i had my leg amputated i was thirsty also. it is from a lot of things like his diabetes, anesthesia, pain medicines make your thirsty. if they can give him Ice chips that seemed to work the best to help me not be so thirsty. he is dealing with a lot of physical and emotionally issues right NOW. give him a little time and he will not be so cranky but he went through a terrible thing and it takes time to deals with those things.

I dont know if this is even relevant, but i've had 2 surgeries, and been in the ICU for a total of about a week, and I was also really really thirsty...after you are put under to have surgery, the anesthtitics makes you really thirsty for some reason.

He is thirsty because he is a diabetic. He is paranoid because he's just gone through a major trauma. He needs your understanding and love and compassion. If he thinks the nurses are mistreating him, show him that you care by being his advocate, a liaison between him and the nursing staff. You can tell them in a nice way what his needs are, and they will respond in kind. This will help everyone in this tough situation. Good luck!
