I totally agree with you! We have half that number of people and the food alone is going to cost more than $7000 (and it is nothing fancy)! Without having an outdoor park wedding with a BBQ, we could not find anything cheaper in our area. $16k is a lot of money but for that many people it will be harder to go cheaper. a lot is dependent on the area you are in.
You can save money by having an appi or dessert only reception though. Or even have relatives cook (since you obviously have a lot of them!) You can get the dinner made by a restaurant or caterer and have the fam bring desserts instead of having a cake.
congrats and good luck!

This is all about location. I read PiNkY's comment and that's amazing that she was able to afford a wedding for that much. I live on LI, NY, when me and my hubby were looking for places to have our reception we found a place that wanted $99,000 to have the wedding held there, the cocktail hour, and the reception for about 100 people. Then I found another place that was going to be about $16,000 for the wedding, cocktail hour, and the reception for the same amount of people and it seemed like we were getting more food. This did not include flowers, transportation, tuxedos, gown, and all the other things you need to pull off a wedding. We ended up having a small intimate wedding because our daughter was conceived before our original wedding date and we couldn't afford her plus a wedding.
Anyway, I think if you can pull a wedding off for $16,000 then more power to you. Just remember your original budget will probably balloon another 10-20%. It is true that the money you spend on a wedding can go toward a house but this is yours and your fiance's special day and you want to celebrate it in a special way with family and friends.
Good luck and congratulations!

Scientists have been proving there is evolution for like one hundred fifty years now...in case you opt to work out the evidence, then look up some technological understanding Journals, there are over a hundred,000 printed works proving it. i'm uncertain what you're pertaining to via evolution, possibly you're questioning approximately the place guy got here from, which isn't what evolution is all approximately. there have been learn that final some years exhibiting animals evolve besides as very speedy learn lasting some weeks. Fruit flies are born, stay and die very straight away so that they are used often for assessments, and we are able to work out how they evolve. Do you ever ask your self why you get a chilly or the flu each 12 months? that's because of the fact the bacteria and viruses that reason them evolve each and all the time. They mutate so many times and thanks to this we ought to make new vaccines for them each 12 months. there are thousands of examples. they are very interesting and interesting. Evolution isn't a nasty factor, and that is not comparable to God and evolution can not exist at as quickly as. Many scientists are christians so do not think of they are all athiests who prefer evidence that God exists.

I'm having my wedding reception at my church with 200 people. We're cutting a couple corners but it's going to cost us 5000.00 for the reception. The reception hall and the chapel is 500.00 and we're having hour derv's. I wanted to go all out in the beginning but i soon realized that i was spending all of this money for the guests, not for me and my fiancee. We cut down a lot and we feel a lot better. After all it's about the wedding and the marriage, not how much money you can sped.So yeah, 16000.00 is a lot of money.

Really? Wow! I don't think $16,000 is a lot at all for that many people! I spent a total of $10,000 for 63 people and I thought that was a great price (considering I got married in a historic museum with an amazing caterer)! So, unless you're reception is going to be at a park or in someone's back yard and you will be serving soda and finger foods.....I think $16K is a great price!!!

easy...
there are alot of places like Elk's or Moose lodge halls to rent.. local family owned restaurants will usually have the capacity and rent out for a night as well. be creative.. you do not have to hold your reception in an upper end resort or hotel for everyone to have a good time. it is not about where you are having it.. just that you are surrounded by family and friends and enjoying your special day. btw-- I am a major tight-wad.. i did everything myself and my reception costed $2500. good luck!

Where do you live? I think that the costs very greatly between geographic regions, and things are more expensive in cities than they are in rural areas.
Actually, with 250 people $16,000 isn't that bad - especially if it includes venue rental.
We're paying $55 per person (for food and drinks) for 150 guests. That amount, plus venue rental, is coming out to just under $12K. Of the nicer venues in our city (Austin) it's one of the most reasonably -priced places around.
EDIT: I meant "vary greatly"... can't type today! :-)

We had our wedding in the backyard, about 150 people, rented tables and chairs, picked wild flower boquets, had a local deli cater it with lots of hot great food, decorated with candles in wine glasses I bought at the salvation army, good will, hundreds of them, had a nighttime wedding, borrowed a stereo system and lots of cd's from friends, Our biggest expense was liquor and we had alot of it. Everyone said it was the best wedding they had ever been to there was no money stress, everybody had a great time dancing and playing music. Your wedding is what you make of it. If your concerned about $ then work within your means it will be alot less stress on you. I wouldnt have had mine anyother way I was actually able to thoroughly enjoy my wedding. Good luck

Your reception doesn't sound like it is a lot of money--to me anyway.
I live here in LA, and will be having my reception in a restaurant, and for 300 guests, my fiancee is forking out $25000, just for food and beverages.

Nobody has to prove anything to you. Based on your last question and now this one, you seem like an unpleasant person who seems to think people OWE her something.
Lots of people have weddings for less, and lots for alot more. In my particular case, ours will cost close to twice what yours will, but we are also not expecting anyone else to foot the bill.
When you rely on someone else to pay for you, you get what they choose to offer. IMO, that is a compromise I'm not willing to make, and if that means we have to fork over the thousands of dollars ourselves to have the kind of wedding we want, then that's the way it is. We are adults--and therefore, we understand the fact that it is up to us and nobody else to fund our dreams.
