The best thing I got out of my writing class was meeting the girl I love and am currently involved with. Oh yeah, I got to write some pretty good stories and poems, too.

Many years ago I took a creative writing class, and I will never for get one assignment. The teacher passed out a piece of paper face down. He said OK now turn the paper over and look at the picture. Write what this person is thinking in the picture. It was a picture of a man seating at a drafting board with a small picture of a lady and two children at the park. He had a coffee cup some pencils, ruler, and small clock on the corner of the desk.
I first thought I can not relate to this picture I know nothing about drafting, I don't have any children, I am a female and not a man. Then I thought this is a creative writing class, use your imagination.
I wrote what I thought that he was thinking, and it turned out to be what I was really thinking. Like I wish I had a nice husband who had a good paying job, someone who was willing to work and go to night school in order to climb the ladder of success.

Being able to be creative but be given some possible topics to work with. A fun teacher always helps. I took classes roughly 10 years ago.

It was awesome, I miss it actually. I could get any thought into my head and turn it into a story. I still do that, I watch or hear something and then I'll get a story and I'll go into detail about it. Its creative and fun.

The fact that Dr. Glen Swetman took me under his wing, and nurtured the talent he thought was there....
And the red ink pen he used on ALL my poems to make SURE that talent would be developed!!!!!!!
He's still my friend and mentor, to this day!!!!
