If they don't stop using those terms someone might start believeing that global climate change is happening! Do you think it makes no sense to call a December tropical storm a freak weather event? Or a killer continent wide ice storm as never before seen? It's ONLY more than 1 MILLION people without electricity. And FEMA has ALWAYS been called out for two seperate events in the winter. Right?

They're used to thinking a lot about short term events, which is why old weathermen have a hard time accepting global warming.
But be careful yourself, my friend. You're coming close to falling into the same trap. Citing one month's weather as proof of global warming is neither correct, nor a good idea.
Note that Agent Zer0 and Larry have given excellent answers.

My last Valentine's day. I got listed off things I do that annoy my bf, didnt even get a card, got taken out to TACO BELL, saw a lame movie, got into an argument for 4 hours and cried all night long. meanwhile i spent $40 on a nice card, a bunch of candy, and sexy lingerie. WHICH i did not get to use, because he threw a fit about a burrito being too hot in front of my parents. Then he laid down and said his head hurt when we tried to bone I am trying to forget that I was with this guy for TWO YEARS!

When a third of a country is taken down by an ice storm with no electricity, I would say that is "never seen".
You aint seen nothing yet of the "never seens" - it's only just begun.
Mind you the media likes to make a lot of hype about nothing.
Quebecers laugh at Ontarians when they have a snowfall...as one woman put it, one inch of snow and the entire province is crippled. We have3 or 4 feet every day and just deal with it.
To some a little rain is a catastrophe. You have to look at the overall picture when it comes to your news source, what is fact and what isn't.

Most people judge the world from the time they were born. Clearly the weather today can't touch the horrors of the Dust Bowl era.
But since few people are around to remember how bad things were in the 1930's, people forget it ever happened.
So now they use "worst ever" and "never seen before" because they are in fact the worst ever in their lifetime.

Unlike the weather man, you have to keep things in perspective. We have only been keeping a record of the weather in America for about 200 years. The television stations want the viewers to stay on their channel, so they sensationalize everything to get your attention.

Record breaking weather is a sign of climate change. Ask your parents what the winter/summer was like when they were your age and you will find out how much has changed in your local area.
