With development, our wilderness areas are smaller and smaller, and can support fewer and fewer animals. Hunting helps manage their numbers, and is certainly less cruel than what goes on in a slaughterhouse.

TENS OF MILLIONS of poor people in the U.S. live in rural areas, areas so far back in the country that a European would think of it as wilderness. And hunting provides a significant amount of their food.

Are anti-hunters more interested in their own bad feelings about hunting than they are in stopping people from starving, or in stopping animals from dying under cruel circumstances?

I think that most of the anti hunters are sincere people who mean well. They are not by any means "stupid, or thick headed". They just fail to realize that "letting nature take it's own course" is not a viable option for wildlife management. The simple fact is that people have, through destruction and changing of habitat, altered natures course to the point that active intervention is necessary to maintain healthy wildlife populations. The only mortality factor for wildlife that people can directly control is hunting. When administered properly, by trained professionals, hunting is an invaluable tool in that maintenence.

For your information, I am a tree hugger, I hat Mc Donald's,and I am a vegetarian. I am also against hunting. Don't get me wrong, I love to be in nature and all that stuff, but going to kill a poor animal is wrong to me. I understand why people say that hunting keeps the population down and stuff, but if stupid people would stop killing wolves, bears, foxes, and other predators, then they would do that job for us. Also, with the meat situation. Why go out hunting when you can go to your local supermarket to buy meat or any other food you want. How convenient is that? I think humans made a mistake many years ago when they decided that it was okay to kill predators that are essential to maintaining the balance of nature. Now, everyone thinks it's okay to kill other animals for no apparent reason when it is not! The only time it would be okay to kill an animal is when you are stranded in the forest and you have nothing else to eat but a deer. Then, knock yourself out!
And no, I am not cold hearted because I am against the killing of animals for fun!

Socialist huh?

(Know the difference between a Socialist and a Communist? The Socialist has not armed himself yet.)

Anti-hunters ignore the rules of common sense and the laws of nature. They have been bilked into thinking that animals have souls and personalities and feelings and that human hunters are mean, dumb, evil and bloodthirsty.

Socialist also ignore not only the laws of nature, but the entire history of mankind's' failures and motivations.

Any political system that oppresses an individuals motivation to improve his own lot in life for the 'common good' is doomed to mediocrity and then failure.

Oh, I know what to do. Let reintroduce predators back into the wilderness and they will be able to control the population....no wait, Calipornia already did something like that, they outlawed hunting cougars and mountain lions and bob cats. Now those creatures are stalking the neighborhoods and eating pets because they are easier to catch than wildlife. Now the leftcoasters are screaming for the wildlife department to do something to save little fluffy and woozy from those bad old cats...Laughed my a** off...
"Feed them to the lions."....Oh, look here's pookies collar. Why it looks like a cat crapped on it....OMG...it's IN the Crap....

With the lack of natural predators, hunting is needed to keep animal numbers from getting out of control. Also, the fees that hunters pay help pay for all sorts of wildlife management programs. Abolish hunters and the wildlife suffers.

You pretty much got it pegged. The big problem here is that more of these east&west coast know nothings are moving into our wilderness with no knowledge or concern for how things are done here. Then they run around spouting off about our terrible way of doing things {hunting, fishing, target shooting, and living the good life}, Then they wonder why we are so unfriendly towords them ! Unbelievably thick in the skull. It has never once occured to them that we didn't move to wherever they are from and tried to tell them what they are doing wrong.

good point!
to kill an animal just for sport and trophy IE; ivory, etc. is for sure wrong. it can be beneficial for us and our nature if one holds the same kind of attitudes that native Americans have toward hunting ! you also respect your the animal that you are hunting and learn about it and the whole nature.
i heard of a true story that a mother and her 5year old daughter were visiting a farm and mother told her daughter that those birds are chickens. daughter replies" i didn't know that chickens have heads"! so we are out of touch with our nature! peace
