Did you know that the Hail Mary prayer is totally Bible based?

"Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed are thou among women, and blessed id the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, mother of God,
pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen"

Lets break it down:
1) Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee (direct quote from scripture: Luke 1:28)
2) Blessed are thou among women, and blessed id the fruit of thy womb, Jesus (direct quote from scripture: Luke 1:42)
3) Holy Mary, mother of God (Christ is God incarnete, and since Mary bore God in her womb she is rightly called the Mother of God: "Theotokos", or "God-bearer". Remeber what Elizabeth said: "And how has it happened to me, that the mother of my Lord would come to me?" Luke 1:43)
4) pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen (Revelation 5:8 shows that the saints in heaven do actively intercede for us, and. ....

..... in 1 Timothy 2:1-4, Paul strongly encouraged Christians to intercede for each other since such prayers are "pleasing to God". Since Paul says that death does not seperate us from God, it is good to ask our departed brothers and sisters to pray for us the same way we would ask those on earth to pray for us. After all, "the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" James 5:16 (KJV).

Wow, CC, you have a knack for bringing "them" out don't you?

The saddest answer is lauramone's --- not understanding that the Church's authority is given to it by Christ not by men. Corrupt men within the Church are not good, and God will take care of them, but they do not corrupt that what God has said the "gates of hell will not prevail against." The cannot bring down Christ's own Church.

Pedophiles and rapists are everywhere. Do you not trust God to deal with these men? "Vengeance is mine, says the Lord!" This does not mean they should remain in service to the Church, only that as humans we deal with what we know and can do. God ultimately deals with the eternal salvation and judgment of all. I trust him completely to see that justice is done.

Our human, fallible, decisions not to follow the authority of the Church should be more suspect than anything the Church has set down as teachings of God. To make up your own mind that the church is wrong, and that there are things you will not follow puts your own authority above that of the Church. This thinking makes you a protestant. You do not have the perspective of God. He setup the Church for a reason, even if we cannot always know his ultimate goal...we can know that God would never lead us astray. So within his Church one is safe, obedience is what he asks of us.

As early as 380 AD, the Roman Empire declared the Catholic Church to be the official religion of the Empire.

Nothing about your Church or what you believe is ordained in the Bible. Though many claim that the disciple, Peter, was the first Pope, historians give this title to the Roman Bishop Leo I (440-461). He was the first to claim ultimate authority over all of Christendom.

Mary was a SINNER. just like you and me. Mary had to trust Jesus Christ and ask Him for forgiveness of her sins to go to heaven. Mary is in heaven today ONLY because she believed upon Jesus Christ as Saviour. John 14:6 is very clear...

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

There is a difference between acknowledging her role as the mother of Jesus and the fact that she was blessed to be such, and worshipping her and praying to her as a deity in her own right. Paul also said that " we have ONE mediator between God and men... a man, Jesus Christ."
son Jesus.

About interceding being approved. If I go to my congregation elders with a problem and ask them to pray for me, that is a request to them to approach God in prayer through JESUS. I do not go to them and ask them to speak to God directly on my behalf which is what prayer to Mary is.

I know that. I have always known that. Why do you feel it is necessary to ask this question?

I too am Catholic; however, unlike you I do not accept unconditionally all of the ideas the "men" in the Church tell us we have to obey; if those ideas do not come from Christ I do not feel necessary to follow them. Sadly, the Church is becoming a political tool for right wing fascism; and to prove it they actually seated a true fascist as the vicker of Christ; in the holiest place on earth, the house of St. Peter. And, they allow pedophiles and rapists like Mahoney and Law and others to continue calling themselves "men" of God. what blasphemy.

This I find unforgiveable and have questioned the so called wisdom of the Cardinals since the day JPII died.

Oh, and by the way I have gone to confession with these thoughts for the past almos two years and my so called Priest tells me to examine my inner soul and say 10 Hail Marys. Fat lot of good that does my salvation.

But Martin Luther says otherwise, and apparently his words outweigh those in the Bible.

Remember, many Protestants simply don't read 14 books of the Bible. Why? Did Jesus say so? Did God? No, because Martin Luther said so.

Did Jesus preach Sola Scriptura? I don't think so. But guess who did?

Yes I did. I learned it before I was old enough to go to school -Catholic school. Some of my non-Catholic friends are not taught that and always figured it was a "Catholic thing".

oh, ..now, let me see then....well, according to this...one could "pray to almost anybody, and get away with it" well, then. i do guess the cath. church has given the spiritual right to do anything, anywhere, anytime,to practically anyone..and, it's "covered?" (scriptually of course!) ya, and i can find all sorts of scriptures to begin all kinds of differant religions also and their beliefs...but, this does not make them correct? It's like this...if Jesus did not say we could do it...? "Peace"!
