sure you can u can even save it but only 1000 of work frm ps1&ps2 so all of em dnt

PS1 games backwards compatibility isn't that complicated as with PS2 games. Even 40GB PS3, which doesn't play PS2 games, plays PS1 games. Some of the most popular PS1 games available in PS Store.

In add. to what the others have said;
for saving you don't need an actual memory card, but rather need to create a virtual one on your hard disc before you start playing. (you go into the 'games' section on the xmb (cross-media bar), select memory card utility (ps/ps2), then new internal memory card, and then the option for PS)

like he said, ye there is a big update as you first sign up 2 the network with compatibility for loads of games included so you should be fine, on the store there are also some classics available like CTR and stuff my psn account is dunc26 for when you get it (Y)
