I have a 2000 Dodge Neon. This morning I went out, I drove for 15 minutes, on the way home the it started smoking, the temperature gage went all the way to hot, I made it home, opened the hood, and there was antifreeze all over the inside of the hood. The resivoir was still full. What could be wrong with my car.....

Approximately how much does this repair cost?

Your car has a bad head gasket. Neon's have a bad design head gasket from the factory. The reservoir is full yet because of the high pressure in the cooling system from the combustion chamber leaking 170 lbs. or more into it. Make sure who ever does the repair gets the new updated metal layered head gasket and seals it with Mopar head gasket sealer. I doubt if the cylinder head needs re-surfacing, as I've done many of these and never seen a warped head. Check all the cooling hoses and clamps for problems that might need attention because of the high pressure in the system. The anti freeze mess is from the radiator cap letting the extra pressure out of the system as it is designed to.

you may have blown a hose on it or the water pump has went out, without knowing for sure what it is the cost can vary a lot on this repair, and if it got really hot there's a chance it may have blown a head gasket because of this, right now your best bet would be to have it took to a shop and have them estimate the cost of repairing it,those are good little engines but they wont with stand getting hot like that, have a shop check it they can tell you what it needs to be put back right again, hopefully it didn't hurt the engine in it,good luck on it.

Well, first of all, you have a coolant leak.......

I would guess that you have blown a hose and pumped out the coolant. The fact that reservoir was full does not count, because if there is a big leak, it will stay in the reservoir.

Possibly just a stuck t-stat...the excess heat and pressure would force coolant from the engine to the overflow bottle, as it's designed to do...coolant sprayed from the overflow once full...the reason for the coolant "leak" and the full bottle. Just another theory.
