If you answered YES, then your church is NOT the church founded by Jesus Christ.
By its Christ-given authority, the Catholic Church canonized the New Testament in the late 4th century. But Jesus founded His Church in the FIRST century, with Peter as the first pope. Here is a list of popes:
http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/12272b.htm
So, the Bible is Church based: The Church is not Bible based. Among the Christian churches, only the Catholic Church has existed since the time of Jesus. Every other church is an offshoot of the Catholic Church. The Eastern Orthodox churches broke away from unity with the pope in 1054. The protestant churches were established during the Reformation, which began in 1517. Only the Catholic Church existed in the tenth century, in the fifth century, and in the first century, faithfully teaching the doctrines given by Christ to the apostles, omitting nothing.

Jesus promised, "I will build my Church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it" (Matt. 16:18). Jesus’ Church is called catholic ("universal" in Greek) because it is his gift to all people. He told his apostles to go throughout the world and make disciples of "all nations" (Matt. 28:19–20). For 2,000 years the Catholic Church has carried out this mission, preaching the good news that Christ died for all men and that he wants all of us to be members of his universal family (Gal. 3:28).

Those are very good arguments. However, it seems that if you believe in the Trinity - God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, that God is perfect, and that the Bible is the Word of God, then there should be no discrepancies between a Spirit-based church, a Christ-based church, and a Bible-based church. If one of them is always for abortions, another is for them in certain circumstances, and another is always against them, then the differences are not because of their bases, but because of man's imperfect interpretations.
You however, apparently believe the Bible is just a book written by the church. I disagree with you on that point.
An argument could be made that the Bible is secondary and that if you based something on the Bible, you would not follow God, but I disagree with that too. First, if you were to truly follow the Bible and all the guidance in it, including the Ten Commandments, then you would not go wrong if you did not read the books your religion "omitted" from the Catholic Bible. Second, if you or a church were to say you are God, Christ, or Spirit based, and that always trumps the supposedly errant Bible as a legitimate reference, then you would set yourself up for human leader religions such as Joseph Smith's Mormons and David Koresh's Branch Davidians. Those take one person's ideas regardless of conflicts with popular interpretation and common sense. One would seem to see greater good in being led by a council than by one person because the council can have enough people led by the Holy Spirit to outvote one or two people swayed by Satan or just human mistakes whereas the sole leader religion is always vulnerable to the leader being swayed by Satan or just human mistakes. Yes, I include the Catholics in that pool of vulnerable religions if they so choose to make the pope the final authority on any matter.
About the splitting of the religions. I totally agree with you. I also want to tell you a story for comparison. It is not a parable, but a true story with at least one lesson to be learned. I once worked for a company that was owned and actively managed by a Christian. He repeatedly instructed me to cheat on income taxes, real estate taxes, sales taxes, franchise taxes, and worker's compensation insurance. I left the company. If I start a competitor or join a new competitor does that mean his company is right and the competitor and all its employees like me are wrong? I don't think so. Their actions are right or wrong, based on God's judgment without regard to the age of the establishment. In case you have not seen my point, the age of the Catholic Church makes it historical and admirable for its longevity, but not better simply because it is older.
Now about that older establishment and its offshoots. They each had their faults and people should continue to weigh their beliefs and give up their faulty ways that were at one point created by some faulty human interpretation of their own or somebody else's. I cannot defend the protestants splitting so they can get divorced just like you should not defend the Catholics selling confessions or using labels like excommunicated and anti-pope as political tools. This is also why I believe Mitt Romney should state Joseph Smith was a fraud and Mitt is a Christian who wants to be associated as a follower of Jesus Christ and not of the usually very close-family and mission-minded but fraudulently-created Mormon faith.

explain why the Catholic Church did what it did when the reformation took place? it became clear that there was too much politics and not enough gospel. I am not saying that the catholic church is bad, i am just saying it was and is run by man and imperfect. They did some pretty horriable things. So I ask you to explain that?
explain in the bible where it says we can pray to saints and Marry. I do agree she was a wonderful person, blessed above all other. She, however, is dead. She can not hear your prayers and no where in the bible does it say anyone other than Satan, Jesus, or God can hear our prayers.

Yes, My church is, and actually everything we learned form Jesus Christ is in the Old Testament. (What did Jesus teach out of... The old Testament)
and Catholic's are never spoken about in the bible, But Christians are, Read Acts.
Do you remember when the Catholic's would give out thesis In order for people's sins to be forgiven??? Or how about when they martyred many people for standing up for the word of God?
Oh almost forgot, the "pope" is never talked about in the bible eather.

guy, i disagree with you personally. in my opinion the catholic church is the remaining power that was transfered from the roman government after it fell. but that's neither here nor there. the fact is that you believe in christ as savior. so do i. why then do christians put so much division between ourselves? look at the thriving churches in asia and africa where serious miracles are taking place. those churches are just that, churches. they eliminate the "religion" and focus on relationship. a relationship with jesus christ. we should be more like them and work together for the body of christ, through the holy spirit, for the spreading of the gospel, taking care of the poor and sick, and not being so political in our mutual faith.

The bible is most certainly and most definitely NOT Church-based. The bible is the inspired Word of God, literally breathed by Him. A church that is bible-based means that it uses the bible as the sole and final authority, being the inerrant and infallible Word of God. A bible-based church holds scripture above any man-made tradition, something which the Catholic church cannot claim. Nowhere in Scripture is there the idea or notion of the infallibility of the church. Only God's Word is infallible.
Consider the following scriptures:
Isaiah 55:10-11 "10 For as the rain comes down and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, 11 So shall My Word be that goes forth from my Mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it."
2 Timothy 3:15-17 "15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."
2 Peter 1:3-4 "3as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust."
2 Peter 1:20-21 "20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, 21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit."
Psalm 12:6 "the words of the LORD are pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times."
Psalm 119:140 "Your word is very pure; therefore your servant loves it."
Proverbs 30: 5-6 "5 Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. 6 Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar."
I think you can see by these Scriptures, that God's Word is the final and ultimate spiritual authority, that it is inerrant and infallible and pure. Scripture is God-given and thus utterly reliable and true.

My church (Church of Christ) IS Bible based and it IS the church founded by Jesus Christ.
I'm studied my history, too, darling, and you aren't going to shake my faith with your pro-Catholocism banter.
The Bible teaches baptism, which comes from the word baptizo...which translates "to immerse." Why then, would we sprinkle babies, who are too young to even make the conscious decision to accept Christ?
A relationship with Christ is a personal decision, not something your parents give you at your Christening.

Are you trying to convert protestants? Ok, where in the Bible does it say that we are suppose to pray to saints when it clearly states that Jesus is at the right hand of God who ever-liveth to make intercession for us? Seriously, why would you need anyone else??
