well, it is nice that I can read it when I need spiritual comfort but with a mind and memory used properly, it isn't necessary to my beliefs; i believe whether I can read that someone tells me to, or not.
have you ever noticed all these so called experts on what Jesus said and did, weren't there, and are just like everyone else, making it all up out of their heads. I mean, isn't the fact that he did live, and die enough. do we really have to know under which rock in the desert he was buried? He said, why do you look for me here, I am with my father.
He didn't say, keep searching for my robe, burial place, where I ate, slept, who I did and did not like, whether or not I was married, and what my mother's name really was.
He said, if you believe in me and profess that belief, that is all I ask.

Absolutely...and that the common man can read!
Look at the Muslims and Hindus. The scriptures are not available in the common language for the common man to read and interpret. This is the main reason why a religious zealot can get a poor kid to kill in the name of God.

Very much so. I like being able to read the bible. It's very important. There will always be errors in translation but I am grateful for the English bible.

yes, I read an NIV, not a KJV.
How in the world did I get a "thumbs down" for stating that I prefer the accepted modern translation over a 500 y.o. one?

The Bible was in English long before protestantism, as far back as a thousand years ago

I guess you could say I am thankful for the bible. It helped me dispell a lot of internal religious arguing.
