What precisely doesn't he "get?" And what is he doing wrong?

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

You can't make anyone "get it" unless they want to, and that applies to most things, not just Christianity.

Just live your faith and be a friend to him. If he asks you about it, then tell him, but don't try and force your beliefs on him.

just state the beliefs respectively and also respecting his/her beliefs, dont revert to scripture b/c you ran out of material, think on it and I guess as some do pray, meditate, sacrifice something, whatever helps to inspire you to find your own words of honesty and not just citing a book.

Leviticus 24:16 And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death.

That ought to show him!

Don't try. Just be his friend and live your beliefs. When he asks a question answer it as honestly as you can.
