When I attend church, everyone is screaming, hollering and have their arms wide open, plus some people are speaking in tongues (and/or running around). Why does that not phase me? I read the Bible, and know the word. I feel that I am a Christian. Yet, I do not understand attending church, and the patrons activities.

I know that I am a born-again Christian, since age 17. I love the Lord. However, I admit that I have backslided alot since then. I have bad luck with people, and it is dragging me down.

Are you certain that others around you are being sincere? God deals with each of us differently because we are unique. There are also "play-actors" in the church..those who are trying to appear spiritual and only looking foolish. Ask God to reveal to you what you need to do. Ask and you shall receive. Truthfully praise the Lord. He dwells in our praises. And you will know it when He touches you.

When I was a pentecostal I used to go and watch these people run around and speak in tongues. I was amused, but even back then I doubted that it was from god. I knew that these people were doing it for the recognition of the church and the congregation. "Look how much god loves me, I'm speaking in tongues" I started reading and devouring the bible and soon came to the conclusion that it is all an act.

At the risk of attracting the wrath of a lot of evangelical Christians, it could be that you're not in the right place for you. Personally, I'd find it nearly impossible to commune with the Holy Spirit with all of that screaming, arm-flailing, and tongue-speaking going on around me. I'd be nervously looking for the exit. I'm not saying the church you attend is "bad"; that style just isn't for everyone. Maybe it isn't for you.

Well, it could be for a lot of reasons.... But I would encourage you to continue to read the bible, continue to pray, continue to attend church - although you may want to find a church that is a little more compatible with your present state of mind.
Certainly raising one's arms in prayer and praise, speaking in tongues, shouting, etc. are all ways of worshiping and approaching God. Maybe you need to do some serious bible study about what the bible says about worship and meeting together.
Also, maybe you should go and talk to the pastor or elder of the church and explain to him your difficulties and thoughts.
god bless

Well, I believe there are moments in our spiritual lives that are beyond words and therefore, we cry, clap hands and maybe even dance and shout. However, it is not necessary to do these things to give praise and worship the Lord. Alot of these traditions, in certain denominations are just that...traditions. I believe there are those who are truly sincere in their faith and dance, shout, clap hands, etc. but I also believe there are many who do it for show.
The most important thing is that you know Jesus is in your heart and you are living your life according to His will. This is a process...not an immediate "fix" or lifestyle. Jesus works through us, teaching us, guding us and leading us if we truly desire Him to do so.
If you are uncomfortable in your current place of worship, try some other places. I am blessed to have the perfect environment for my sincere ways of worship. If I feel like lifting my hands because I am so full, I can but if I wish to remain quiet and worship privately, I am free to do that as well. The Spirit is within and whether or not you shout, dance or scream, has nothing to do with whether or not the Spirit is in you.
I will pray that you are able to find the best place to worship. Ask God for guidance. He WILL help you find the right place.
God bless!

people who deny the trinity & deny the Holy Spirit in simple terms don't comprehend their Bibles. So then we arise with that the Holy Spirit isn't God?? I very much debate that one. Or will we are saying that Jehovah isn't God?? or that Jehovah and Jesus are a similar individual, which the Bible needless to say shows Jesus chatting together with his Father. the only answer is 3 persons = one God, there's no longer different genuine looking answer. to assert that Jesus is the only authentic God, then denies Jehovah & the Holy Spirit as being God. Jesus spoke that the Holy Spirit could be our comforter & that HE could instruction manual us. P

Have you asked Jesus into your heart?
You "FEEL" that you are a Christian?
If you don't KNOW FOR SURE--then you may need to be talking to God about it.
This is MY THINKING, okay?
The way I look at it, is---If you don't KNOW FOR A FACT that you are going to Heaven when you die--then you have NOT asked Jesus into your heart.
The HOLY SPIRIT will let you KNOW that in your heart, and He will soften your heart and give you understanding that He is THERE with you through EVERYTHING that you EVER will go through!
By the way---that church may not be the one for you--even if it is for your parents, or other family---find one where there is a lot for YOUR understanding of how the Holy Spirit is.
You do NOT have to flail your arms and scream and whatever to worship God.

When Jesus taught his word he did not scream, holler, speak in tongues or run around. The holy spirit does not dwell at such a scene.
You need to change churches.

There is a LOT OF HOOPLA..... in the False Churches....!
What they call the Holy Spirit.... IS PLAIN AND SIMPLE..... FOOLISHNESS....!
Take for Instance... what is portrayed TODAY... as Holy Spirit TONGUES? ? ?
DO THEY VIOLATE.... the Scripture for the Suposed Speaking in Tongues?
(1Corinthians 14:27-28) If one speaks in a language, let it be by two, or at the most three, and in succession. And let one interpret.
(1Co 14:28) But if there is = = no interpreter, = = let him be silent in a church; and let him speak to himself and to God.
Thanks for Asking ! RR

THE Bible's use of "holy spirit" indicates that it is a controlled force that Jehovah God uses to accomplish a variety of his purposes.
