When I think of famous creationists I think of Dr. Dino, and that is not a good assocation.

But I just learned that Ben Stein is a creationist and ID advocate.

I've always been a fan of Ben Stein; I loved his game show and his acting cameos, and I think it's cool that he was a speechwriter for the White House.

I'm not personally a creationist/"anti-evolutionist" but if I was I'd be pretty happy to be associated with Ben Stein, who's a pretty smart guy.

I guess the question here is: did you know that Ben Stein is a creationist? Do you know any other famous creationists who are actually kind of cool? (For the record, Kent Hovind isn't cool.)

Clint: well he's that guy from Ferris Bueler's Day Off. I don't know if he's that famous, but he's pretty well known I'd say. At least I'm a fan.

Siver: I would never believe it just because someone famous does. Ben Stein is a really smart guy and I respect his views on politics...not so much on biology. Don't jump to assumptions.

Kurt Wise is the only honest creationist of the lot of them, and he has a degree in paleontology from Harvard University where he studied under the supervision of the famous scientist Stephen Jay Gould.

That truly is surprising about Ben Stein. When you think "creationist," you automatically picture "nutjob."

As for famous creationists, I guess it depends on how you define "fame." A lot of well-known Televangelists and politicians are creationists (although I wonder about the politicians -- they worship polls more than anything else). Someone mentioned Kirk Cameron as being famous in a washed-up kind of way. And of course you can look back in history and find lots of "creationists," simply because they didn't have the science then that we have today.

Someone once said that nothing is more frightening than listening to your physician talk politics, because it reveals how truly ignorant the physician is. The same can be said of celebrities and religion -- case in point: Tom Cruise.

I did know that Ben Stein is a creationist. Somebody a few weeks ago posted a question about the movie that he's in that questions evolution, which is how I found out.

Another famous creationist who I respect was populist leader William Jennings Bryan. (He was the prosecutor in the Scopes Monkey Trial) I respect his views on politics.

EDIT: Father K was on Win Ben Stein's money? That's so cool! I loved that show.

"Bueller. Bueller. Bueller."

I too am surprised at Ben Stein. I always thought his investment advice was pretty good, now I'll have to reconsider.

Unfortunately, most of the Republican candidates for president espouse creationism. I hope they're being hypocritical, but I guess that Huckabee is a true believer.

I believe he's more "undecided" than a creationist. He simply doesn't want the possibility of knowledge limited. He does make a good point, but I think he's letting it include a bit too much. When you move over from that which can be weighed and measured into the realm of magic and miracles, you've changed topics.

While I respect his motive, I still don't think creationism has anything to do with science.

answer: I think you've been smoking a lot of what he was famous for smoking. He wasn't a Muslim, he was a Rastafarian singer. Perhaps you know the remake Eric Clapton did of one of his numbers: I Shot the Sheriff # # # No, never really interested in learning about Muslim or Christian creationists. I prefer reality

William Jennings Bryan. Specialized in persecuting evolutionist teachers, in particular Mr. John T. Scopes.

Perhaps the most famous creationist in American history.

No, I didn't know that Stein was a creationist. I do not base my lack of believe on people, but I do evaluate the evidence and make a judgment based on that.

Endorsing creationism and/or ID is not the sign of someone who has objectively evaluated the evidence.

Famous doesn't mean you know the right answers outside your area of expertise. I find it disturbing that people believe something because a celebrity said it.
