I would choose children, that is to me what the holiday is about, it isnt really the true date of Jesus's birthday, so all that to me is a load of cr#p..
nothing is as great as the way a child eyes light up on Christmas, and the whole santa thing..
though children are a part of what makes up a family, their innocence prevails in comparision to auntie floozie who's had to many eggnogs...

Jesus is the one we honor at this time of year.

The other stuff is just what has been added, but that doesn't take away from the original intent.

If you mean to ask, what is the most time and thought spent on at Christmas, it might be the other things. But the "reason" still remains the same.

Just like the 4th of July is about the birth of a nation, although bbqs and fireworks and vacationing are what we do, it doesn't change the reason we are doing it.

As a Christian, for my household it is Jesus. This is the celebration of His Birthday. And regardless of when He was actually born is moot because this is the day we have long since celebrated. Children can be given gifts all through the year. There is nothing wrong with turning your focus away from stuff and onto the cross for one measely day.

The longest night of the year, and all that's symbolized by that.

Jesus was tacked on later. The Winter solstice was the longest night of the year before Jesus, before Christianity, before mankind.

at the risk of sounding all preachy i would choose Jesus, He is the reason for everything in my life (good, bad and indifferent) and i couldn't help but be thankful.
